ELON UNIVERSITY RECEIVES LARGEST DONATION IN ELON’S HISTORY Elon Parents Donate $12 Million to go to New School of Communications Facilities (Elon, NC)—Elon University parents Dwight and Martha Schar donated $12 million
dollars to Elon University to go to the building and naming of two new facilities and the
renovations of current buildings for Elon’s School of Communications. The Schar’s gift
will also go to the building of a new convocation center.
On October 16, 2014, Elon announced its campaign to raise $15 million dollars to expand
facilities for the growing School of Communications. This campaign includes the
remodeling of two existing buildings and the building of two brand new buildings.
Including the Schar’s gift, the school has now raised $12.1 million for the campaign.
"This gift is a truly historic commitment to Elon and our university's future," said Board
of Trustees Chairman William N.P. Herbert, M.D., who graduated Elon in 1968. "The
Schar family is making a generous and powerful investment in Elon – one that will
impact generations of students and increase the university's momentum as it gains even
greater national recognition for excellence."

SCHAR FAMILY DONATES $12 MILLION TO NEW FACILITIES
The nation recognizes Elon University’s School of Communications. It offers six
different areas of study for undergraduate students and one masters program in
Interactive Media. Over 1,100 students currently work to pursue a degree from the
School of Communications, and 60 full-time staff members teach communications
courses. As one of only 18 private schools with an accredited communications program,
the school publishes the only undergraduate research journal in communications.
Elon University’s School of Communications provides an appealing program to future
students, and the program continues to thrive. If you have any more questions, please
