News from Preschool

Middle Primary

In Literacy this term we have been looking at poetry! This has been a great way for stu-

dents to explore rhyming patterns, vocabulary and use their creative thinking skills! To

start with, students drafted and

prepared a poem about the

weather to present to class

and display. Students created

some amazing poems using

descriptive language! Here are

some of our weather poems:

Upper Primary 3 weeks done and so much still to do. Last week we did our Spelling Age Test and I was impressed by the growth the students have made. We still have some work to get some students to their spelling age, but the growth they have made is over a year. Today Ty organised a class sweep for the Melbourne Cup, this showed his organisation and problem solving skills. Thursday we will be having a represented from Tony Parsin’s office coming to run a Par-liament Role play with our class, this will link with Civic and Citizenship. Over the last 2 terms we have been looking at how our parliament is structured, the history behind it and other countries. Our Yr 7 students have been planning light refreshments for the Governing council Meet-ing on Thursday. They have chosen a menu, recorded what they will need and devel-oped a running sheet, which has highlighted their group and organisation skills they have worked hard on all year.

News from around the classes…..

Junior Primary The students felt very proud this week after planting trees at the local swimming pool. It’s a credit to them all on the fantastic behaviour that has been displayed by them and mentioned by people in the community. Well done JP! They were also able to write a recount of what, why and how they planted the trees. Our canvas murals of the sea landscape are coming along. Students are working care-fully and planning where to put things. The canvas’s will be for sale at the art gallery show on Christmas concert night. In numeracy, we have been learning about money. Please support your child by letting them handle money and even pay for small items so they can become accustomed with the values and currency.

Science with Mrs Illman…. In Science we had the students measure their shoes for friction by using a rubber band to measure the static friction (when the object was not moving) and then pulling the rubber band to measure dynamic friction (when the object was moving). They discovered that the friction on their shoes depended on the shoe grip, size and brand on the carpet. The Nike and Asics were better!
