Confession and Forgiveness P: Blessed be the holy Trinity, + the God of goodness and lovingkindness,

whose Son was sent to save us and whose Spirit is poured out on us and renews us.

C: Amen. P: As people called out of darkness, let us confess our sins and seek

forgiveness from the God of righteousness and mercy. (silence for reflection) P: Oh God of steadfast love, C: We confess our impatience and resistance to your will. We have sought to satisfy our deepest longings from created things and forces rather than through you, our creator. We are quick to judge others, yet we fail to see our own failings. We are numb to the cries of those in need and grow weary of righteousness and compassion. Restore us, Oh God; let your face shine on us, that we may be saved. Amen. P: Hear the glad tidings of God! For the sake of Christ, your sins are forgiven

and light has shone in your darkness. May Christ shine forth from our lives as we wait for the full redemption of all creation.

THE WORD First Reading Isaiah 11:1-10 1A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. 2The spirit of the LORD shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. 3His delight shall be in the fear of the LORD.

He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide by what his ears hear; 4but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked. 5Righteousness shall be the belt around his waist, and faithfulness the belt around his loins.

6The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them. 7The cow and the bear shall graze, their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8The nursing child shall play over the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put its hand on the adder’s den. 9They will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.” R: The Gospel of the Lord. Apostles’ Creed I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

All Baptized Christians are welcome to join with us in this meal where we believe the true body and blood of Christ are really present. We commune by “Intinction.” As you are ushered forward, please kneel at the altar rails, extend your hand to receive the bread (or ask for a gluten free wafer), and dip it into either the red wine or white grape juice. You are also invited to remain at the altar rail for a brief time of prayer and meditation if you wish. Adults who do not receive the supper or children who have not received First Communion instruction are encouraged to come forward for a blessing.
