UPDATING OUR DATABASE: With a new minister coming and things moving into the technology world we need your help! We are going to be updating our records. We need updated phone numbers (both land line and cell phone), emails, and
addresses. If you do not want your information published to the congregation, you may put in that request. We are working on making sure we keep communication with our members and friends. Making it easier for you to get updates as well as your newsletter. We are going to reduce our waste and start emailing and publishing our newsletter online only starting in 2019. We will still mail to those who do not have internet. We will have some paper copies available at the church as well. Please make sure your information is up to date so you don’t miss anything important!
You can update your information by emailing the church at [email protected] or call the church 734-428-8359 or go to the church website and put your information in the “contact us”
The Pastor Search Committee: The search committee continues to receive and review Ministerial Profiles that we are receiving from both the Michigan Conference Office and individual submissions. To date we have reviewed 36 profiles. We have used the same process for each candidate which includes a phone interview, 1st video interview and 2nd video interview; after each interview the committee votes to determine if the candidate will move on the next step in our process. We have yet to determine the next step (after the 2nd video interview) in the process, but will be discussing options at our first meeting in October. We thank the Council for securing an interim minister that will guide us over the next few months while we continue our work as a search committee. It
3
is with understanding and much appreciation for the hours of work put into the process that we accepted Laura Sutton's decision to step away from the search committee. We thank her for her time and guidance. I ask that you please keep the members of the search committee in your prayers as we work to bring Emanuel our next called pastor. If you have questions please contact a member of the search committee - Krista Scharpenberg, Katlin (Blaine) Fusilier, Siobhan Gorman, Monty Okey, Pete Johnson, and Bryan Houttekier. Thank you, Kelly Blaine
Live Nativity – We will be setting up the outside display on December 1st. Our live nativity will be Thursday, December 20 and Friday, December 21 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Call Kelly Blaine at 428-0741 or Martha Wenk at 428-8666 when you decide what day you would like to be an angel, Wiseman, Mary, Joseph, or a very special shepherd. They will be glad to find a place for everyone! We will need cookies too, for everyone that helps.
We are having a blast in Sunday school! The children sang a wonderful Thanksgiving song for us on Sunday, Nov. 18. We also said Thank you to recognize our past teachers who have done so much for us: Deb Boham, Erik Patterson, and Cindy Hanewald. All children, K-6 grade, are more than welcome to join
us any Sunday. Sunday school is now happening during the church service. Children will leave after children's time for Sunday school and be picked up at the end of church in the gym. Thank you to all those who have volunteered to help out this year. Please look for a sign-up sheet to be compiled soon.

Pastor’s Ponderings . . . A Note from Pastor Bob Hello everyone -
If you were in Worship this past St. Andrew’s Sunday, you
would have been stirred mightily by the sound of the bagpipes of
Tom Kennedy playing “Highland Cathedral,” accompanied by the
organ music of Susie Goodson. We learned that Andrew was the
very first disciple to recognize the face of Jesus as the Messiah, and
brought his brother Simon Peter to introduce him to Jesus. We also
sang Happy 60th Anniversary to Dick & Arlene Paul, who planned
a surprise appearance of my first Confirmation Class (1979), it’s
40th Anniversary. Coming forward were Gary & Bruce Paul, Bob
Bunney, Bruce Rhees, Gary Bross, and Rob Hartmann. Jennifer
England’s dad, Jim was in attendance, and Tom Lockridge sent a
note. What a morning!
Diana and I were so overwhelmed with the visit of our sons, Duncan
and Andrew and their families for the long Thanksgiving
weekend. Many of you were able to visit with them at the Coffee
Hour.
Advent Sunday is upon us this coming Sunday, December 2. We
light the first Advent Candle, and admire the brand new Christmas
Tree, which has been set up and decorated by many willing hands.
The Christmas Cantata, “Jesus – the Advent of the
Messiah,” will be performed during Worship on Sunday, Dec. 9
here in the Sanctuary, with the combined Choirs of Emanuel and
Sharon United Methodist. This is a super morning to invite a friend
who might enjoy this special Christmas music.
Mark your calendars for the Live Nativity (Thurs & Fri, Dec. 20-
21, 7-9 pm), and Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Worship
(Mon, Dec. 24, 5 pm & 11 pm).
See you in Church! Pastor Bob
