“Hot Stove”
RULE 10-6-12 : The following acts constitute a foul when committed against a ball handler/dribbler:
a. Placing two hands on the player.
b. Placing an extended arm on the player.
c. Placing and keeping a hand on the player.
d. Contacting the player more than once with the same hand or alternating hands.
“Hot Stove” Tips
• We need to stay the course regarding contact on the ball handler.
• We must be consistent in our approach regarding Freedom of Movement.
• Players must be permitted to move freely on the court without being held, pushed, re-routed or impeded.
“Hot Stove” Tips
• This consistent approach will open up our game as basketball is not and was never intended to be a physical sport.
• Enforce the rules as written - no matter the score, time or players involved.
• Refresher: One Hot Stove Touch (on/off instantly) – Any other Hand, Leg, Arm Bar or Body Bump is illegal contact and must be called!
