Mother's day In 1907, a lady in Philadelphia, Anna Jarvis, began lobbying for a day when our nation would honor mothers. She persuaded the leaders of the church her mother attended to designate the second Sunday of May as Mother's Day. After Mrs. Jarvis had written countless letters to political authorities across the nation, by 1911 Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mother's Day a national holiday. He chose the second Sunday in May for the annual celebration. The second Sunday in May was the anniversary of the death of Mrs. Jarvis' mother

Linda Mayer, Gerald Mulder, DeeDee Johnson, Darla Ruschen Lilah Kleinhuizen, Curt Groen **************************************************** The Persecuted Church: Kenya

Long Recovery for Woman Injured in a Church Attack Almost five years after being injured in a church attack, Diana has nearly recovered from her wounds. She and her husband, Austin, were among 21 worshipers severely wounded in a 2014 attack on the Joy in Jesus Pentecostal Church in Mombasa, Kenya, that left seven people dead. Following multiple surgeries and difficult medical treatments, Diana has renewed hope of life without pain. A 2018 surgery finally addressed some lingering issues in her wounded arm, providing pain relief. “My visit to her in February 2019 was much different from my previous ones,” a VOM worker said. “With a broad smile on her face, Diana warmly welcomed me.” Today, Diana shares her testimony around Kenya to encourage other Christians. “I am whole again,” she told the worker. “Your love and patience have seen me through.” ******************************************************* Are you continuing to pray that God would use us to share His love and the Good News of the Gospel with our community? Pray that the presence of God will shine through us, the Emden Church Family, and that He will use us in His Kingdom will. Continue to pray for area churches: Ebenezer Presbyterian, St. John’s Lutheran, First Lutheran, United Methodist, Holy Redeemer, Our Saviors Lutheran, Temple of Jesus Christ, Hispanic Church and Emden. Ask God to continue to move through His church to the glory of His kingdom. Remember—we are part of God’s kingdom and need to always be following Him.
