Mission Statement

Anglers dedicated to enhancing and protecting fisheries and their habitats for today and the future.

Help conserve fish. Educate children and adults. Meet other anglers and find out about some great new places to go fishing. Join a chapter--or join as a member at large. The Northwest Steelheaders rely on dedicated volunteers to do a wide variety of projects. From rehabilitating stream habitat, to conducting angler education fishing clinics, or with our annual Hall of Fame Banquet and Auction, it all works because of people just like you. We'll find a project that suits your skills and interests.

The Association of Northwest Steelheaders is a 501-c3 non-p r o f i t ( t a x d e d u c t i b l e ) organization. If you'd like to support the organization's on-going stream restoration or angler e d u c a t i o n p r o j e c t s , y o u r contribution will be gladly accepted.

Know someone that enjoys fishing? Bring them along to the next meeting and let them find out what the Steelheaders are all about.

The Annual Big Brother Big Sister Outing is just around the corner. This year’s event is Saturday, June 11th at Carmen Diversion up Highway 126. Once again we are in need of boat operators (and boats), cooks, and general volunteer staff to help out for the day. Each year the Steelheaders provide breakfast for the youth and their mentors, take them out fishing on Carmen Diversion, take them on a short hike to the falls, provide them lunch, and hand out prizes to the youth. If you have not participated in the past, don’t miss the event this year. It will undoubtedly be one of the most rewarding event you will take part if all year long. If you don’t have a boat, don’t stay home. We need all types of volunteer help from kitchen staff, fish cleaning, general supervision, etc. There will be a sign up at the May General meeting. Mark your calendars for June 11th!

That information alone should be cause to run to the phone, call Bill Nyara and make your reservations. Let’s have a great Emerald Chapter turnout for this wonderful event.

Letz Creek Smolt Release - “a Great Success”

This year’s smolt release went off like clockwork thanks to the efforts of our Emerald Empire Chapter volunteers. 15,00 smolts “hit the ground running” and are headed to salt to return as 2-salt fish in 2013. There were no “morts” from this year’s release, due largely to the efforts of our members; Al Bazzi, Dale Johnson, Bill

Bayliss, Gary Lutman, and Ashley Walker. Thanks everyone for a great release. The valve was opened about 3 pm and Friday afternoon & by 5 pm Saturday the pond was drained and all of our fish were headed to Florence. Thanks once again for all your efforts!

Cabela’s Grand Opening Celebration - May 7th & 8th, May 14th & 15th

Many of you have been looking forward to the opening of the new Cabela’s store in Springfield (Gateway Mall). Wait no longer. We are just five days away. The Cabela’s manager has asked local fishing organizations to man a booth outside the entrance to Cabela’s on those two opening weekends. We will have a sign up at the May meeting. We will need members to take 2-hour shifts ( two people/shift). Please sign up and share with the community what a great organization the Northwest Steelheaders is.

Here are a few tips for Springfield's May 5 Grand Opening. ? We are located in the Gateway Mall on the I-5 side off of Gateway Loop. We do not have a restaurant in our store; however there are several restaurants within walking distance and a Food Court inside the mall.

? You will need to enter and exit our store each day through the employee entrance on the south side of the building. As you face the main doors, the employee door will be the single door to your right on the side. Please sign in and out each day.

? Please check in at least a half hour prior to event hours. On Saturday, May 7 and 14, event hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. For Sunday, May 8 and 15, event hours are 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

? As our way of saying Thank You for all your hard work, we will offer you a vendor discount for your purchases this weekend. In order to receive the vendor discount we ask you take your purchases to the Customer Service Counter; not the regular cash registers. Identify yourself as a vendor and show your ID to the Customer Service staff. Vendor discount is up to 25 percent off depending on the manufacturer.

? If you need any assistance please contact me or any of the following members of Springfield's management team: Laurie Bohall, Sr. Hardlines manager; Diane Steiner, Sr. Softlines manager; Brian Bonnett, Sr. Operations manager; Bob Fabbri, General Manager.
