GRADE 3 VISITS THE BYCULLA ZOO
Students of Grade 3 visited the Veermata Jijabai Udyan on 26thAugust 2016 to
extend their learning of the current UOI – Natural Habitats. The purpose of the visit was to
learn about animal habitats and examine their living conditions in a zoo.
Students saw a variety of animals, birds and reptiles. They learnt that some were freely moving
while some were caged. They also learnt about a few species they were unfamiliar with.
As true inquirers they posed a number of questions while making their observations and
researched on them once they returned to school. In the coming days, students will reflect on the
living conditions of these animals and find ways of being responsible towards them.

MATHEMATICS & PHYSICS GO TOGETHER
Mr Prashant Kamble and Dr. Ashok Modi attended a lecture
by Cedric Villani, Director of the Institute of Henri Poincare in
France at Centre for Basic Sciences on 16th of August 2016 at
the University of Mumbai.
According to him, “Beautiful Mathematical explanations are
not only for our pleasure but they change our vision of the
world”. He spoke on partial differential equations involved
in statistical mechanics. In his lecture, he deliberated on
Boltzmann equation in more detail with its applications to
physics.
He also discussed about Diophantine number. The property of
Diophantine number was found to be amazing! Over all, his talk
was inspiring from the professional development point of view!
The teachers further plan to share the highlights of this session
with the IBDP students.

BITTERSWEET
Sweet are the memories of old friends,
But, bitter is the truth in their sweet lies!
As blue as the bright sky of the summer,
As deep as the shallowest water,
Are my bitter cries
Of long remembrance!
Bittersweet is that half-missing pack of cards,
Bittersweet is the haze of that summery winter!
As leaps the deer in joy, unaware,
Of the dangers that lurk behind.
When the tiger treads and steps with care,
Bittersweet is the blood that seeps out from behind.
Food for the tiger is loss for the pack;
Nevertheless, bittersweet is Mother Nature’s plan!

Field Trip to Everest Spices,.
On Friday, 19th August 2016, as a part of learning for our Business Studies and Economics, we were taken to
‘Everest Spices Factory Ltd’, at Vikroli in Mumbai. There we learnt about how a factory operates and uses
different strategies for marketing. Also, we were explained how to work in a factory and follow the methods and
the factors for production. Overall, we also understood about business activities. The General Manager, arranged
for factory tour. He described the role of their Board of Directors who guides the factory in all aspects. The factory
has new technology for making the work easier, they have division of labour and the company is spreading its
wings all over all over the country with branch offices.
This visit helped us to develop in many areas. We gained in- depth and practical knowledge of Business and
Economics. We are thankful to our Management, Mr Santosh Mandhare and Mr Rajesh Chorambale who took this
initiative in organizing this trip, accompany us and help us understand these topics in our subjects through practical
knowledge. We also thank Ms Sunita Manambrakat , our teacher- escort who accompanied us and guided us in
each and every stage of the field trip. Not to forget, we express our gratitude to Gr 10 Kavya Shah, whose family
owns this business and the hospitality that was extended to all of us.
We hope we go on field trips like this!

FIELD TRIP TO WADA
When I heard the name ‘Wada’, I had kind of neutral decision whether to attend the trip, but since
CAS activity was mandatory for us, I decided to give it a try. I arrived in the morning, sleepy, with a mind-set
that the camp was going to be boring. I was charged up when I met my buddies. We boarded the bus with lots of
anxiety about how 'Natventure Camp, Wada' would turn out to be. We were accompanied by Mr. Duke and Ms.
Shivangi. The bus ride lasted for about 2 and a half hours which included a stop at McDonald's for breakfast. The camp
situated in the midst of greenery and was a refreshing break from the concrete jungle that is Mumbai. We were ushered
to our dormitories to keep our luggage after which we attended a safety briefing followed by a welcome drink. We went
back to our dorms to change and get refreshed for the upcoming activities. we started off by forming teams and
creating appropriate names and chants for them. We proceeded to play a team building game in which we had to
balance a ball with the help of strings. We took a short break to have our lunch. Then we did some adventurous
activities such as burma bridge, zipline, obstacle course (in which we crawled through slush) and walking on a tightrope.
All of this was topped off by a rain dance to clean us all up in an enjoyable way. We all dried ourselves and wore new
pair of clothes for the night. The day was hot but the night were pleasant. We had an hour to have dinner, so we
thought of ways to spend that time in a very creative and different way. We came up with group activities which
included taking pictures of our shadows on the wall in various poses, a creative simultaneous group head and shoulder
massage which involved arranging chairs in a line and having each person massage the head and shoulders of the
person in front of them. We had dinner at 8:30pm. We even had a bonfire in which we heated marshmallows and
shared the snacks that we brought. Now you might think that our teachers forced us to go to bed but no, there is a twist
in the story. Mr. Duke and a few students started narrating horror stories to us. This went on until a crab was discovered
on the ground, scaring some people and hence the session ended abruptly and we returned to our dorms. The next day
we were shown how to build a raft and some traditional basket weaving. This was after another session on an obstacle
course that underscored the need to work together as a team. We had the opportunity to visit a school in a nearby
village, where we played some interesting games with those children and also saw their lovely class. Before leaving the
school, we distributed notebooks, pens, biscuits and caps to them. We were told that there was a type of painting that
was famous in that area known as Warli painting and we were curious to learn it, so we had a session for it. It was then
time to vacate the camp for our juniors to have fun. Out our way back home, we again stopped at McDonalds for
snacks. This was a trip that I will never forget as I got an opportunity to have adventure with my friends and also to do a
charitable work besides just having fun. I will be happy to go for such trips in future.
