DESCRIPTION
This brochure content was initially written circa 2002 and updated over the years. When the practice was physically moved to it's new site and the new logo was deployed, all brochures (this was one of a series - all created internally - to help educate clients as to the services offered, as well as help improve compliance) were updated with the new logo as well as the map and some of the other images.TRANSCRIPT

Welcome to OPVMC! Thank you for selecting the Orchard Park Veterinary Medical
Center for your emergency or referral veterinary care needs.
Always the patient’s advocate: this is the mission of our hospi-
tal and the staff who work here each day.
To achieve this goal, we combine cutting-edge medical proce-
dures and state-of-the-art technology, with genuine care for the
well-being of your pet. We offer a complete array of surgical
services, utilizing the most current procedures and equipment
for patients of cats, dogs, birds, exotic pets, and pocket pets.
Patients scheduled for procedures that require overnight stays
or in-patient care are continuously monitored by our licensed
veterinary technicians, assistants and the attending veterinar-
ian.
Who We Are: Located in the suburbs of Buffalo, NY, we are a full service, 24
hour, small animal hospital serving the greater WNY area,
Southern Ontario, Canada and Central Northwest, Pennsyl-
vania.
We have at least one doctor and several licensed techni-
cians/nursing care staff on-site 24/7, 365 days a year, allowing
for continuity of care.
We understand the special role your pet plays in your family
and are dedicated to becoming a partner in your pet's health
care. Our goal is to practice the highest quality medicine and
surgery with compassion and an emphasis on service. Our
entire healthcare team is committed to providing personal at-
tention to the unique concerns of each individual animal
owner.
It is our commitment to provide quality veterinary care during
an emergency or referral visit including complete medical and
surgical care as deemed necessary. We also have an on-site
full service laboratory for any diagnostic tests that are neces-
sary to diagnose your pet’s problem.
Please take a few moments to review this brochure and if you
have any questions, feel free to ask the attending doctor or any
of the support staff.

Accessing our Emergency Service: We are open and have at least one doctor and several li-
censed technicians/nursing care staff on-site 24/7, 365 days a
year. Naturally you are anxious when your pet is sick or in-
jured, so a trip to the emergency veterinary hospital should be
a reassuring experience, not one made difficult. That's why
OPVMC's Emergency Service focuses on you and your pet at
all times during the course of your pet's emergency visit. Our
philosophy is to provide excellent, personalized and state-of-
the-art care, delivered with skill and compassion.
It's best if you call ahead to let us know the condition of your
pet and allow us to conduct a telephone triage, for our staff to
give you advice on dealing with your emergency. Also, we can
better prepare for your arrival. When you call ahead, the tech-
nician will advise you on any immediate actions you need to
take, obtain basic information, and make sure you have direc-
tions to our hospital. The Emergency number is (716) 662-
6660. Press option 1 (one).
If you have not visited us recently, here's what to expect on
your visit, along with helpful information:
When you arrive, your pet will be evaluated and triaged by an
experienced technician, and a determination will be made at
that time whether your pet needs immediate medical care .
While the triage exam process is underway for your pet, you'll
complete your admission forms. For life-threatening emergen-
cies, your pet may be rushed directly into to our treatment
center for immediate life saving care. Please be aware: just
like a human ER wait times can be longer than anticipated due
to the volume of cases and the severity of other cases that are
here at the same time as your pet.
If you have been referred as an emergency (see referral policy
as well) by your veterinarian, with the expectation of seeing
one of our specialists, please be aware that you will most likely
see one of our general practitioner veterinarians (who are
highly skilled in emergency medicine) first. If a consultation or
procedure with one our specialists on staff is indicated it will be
arranged.
After initial triage assessment the veterinarian will perform a
physical examination and determine if your pet needs possible
hospitalization or outpatient care. If your pet needs to be hos-
pitalized a deposit of 75% of the provided written and esti-
mated treatment plan will be required. When your pet is hospi-
talized, you'll be informed if there's any significant change in
your pet's condition or care estimates on a daily basis.
For outpatient care, the veterinarian may also recommend
diagnostics tests, and/or x-rays and/or provide treatment in the
form of injectable medications and fluid therapy and then send
your pet home with you for follow-up nursing care at home that
you provide. You can then either follow up here at our facility
for care or at your regular veterinarian. We will make sure that
your regular veterinarian receives a copy of your pet’s medical
records from your visit to OPVMC so that they can be fully
informed on what was done and what your pet’s diagnosis is.
Client Payment Options:
If the doctor recommends treatment that requires admission to
the hospital, you will be provided with an estimate. An estimate
is an approximate cost of the care that we are advising your
pet needs. We ask for 75% deposit of the estimated total, with
the remainder due at the time of hospital release.
Changes in your pet’s condition may arise during your pet’s
stay requiring a change in plans. As a result this can make
your invoice total exceed the estimate. If during treatment, the
doctor determines that there is a need to adjust your pet’s
treatment plan, he or she will make every effort to contact you.
Don’t hesitate to ask the attending veterinarian for a daily up-
date of your bill.
It is important that you determine your method of payment in
advance of your visit as our hospital does not bill nor extend
credit. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, CareCredit, Pet
Insurance, personal checks*, and cash. The hospital does not
receive income from non pet insurance companies, grants,
fund raising drives, or entitlement programs such as Medicare
or Medicaid.
*Hospital policy requires 2 forms of ID for all checks over the
amount of $100.00.
Your Pet’s Medical Records:
We are not affiliated with your regular veterinarian but we do
share a relationship with them in that we share a common goal
in caring for your pet as a team. They have entrusted us to
care for your pet and we take that role very seriously.
Since we are not affiliated with your regular veterinarian and a
universal medical record database does not exist as it does in
human medicine we DO NOT have access to your pet’s medi-
cal records or x-rays. Please bring any medical records, lab
work or x-rays with you as this will greatly help our doctors.
