who are different from them.
Hello Emerson Families~
Did you know… that approximately 150 soldiers (many local men and women of
Owosso/Corunna) of the 144th Military Police Company, with the Michigan Army
National Guard will be deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring
Freedom on Monday, March 18th? The send off will take place from the Corunna
Armory on Monday at approximately 4:00 P.M. The community is encouraged to line the
streets of the Armory at 3:30 P.M. to give them a special send-off. Please consider being
a part of this if you and your family are able! Without getting into mission specifics, the
goal of NATO forces is to train, advise and mentor Afghan forces so that they can
effectively secure their country after NATO forces leave. Please consider coming out to
show your support to these brave men and women!
Thank you for helping to make the drop-off point on Dewey Street less
congested for the busses! The next statement is being left in just as a reminder. If you
use Dewey Street (the east side of Emerson) to drop your child off in the morning, please
note that the busses (all 13 of them) also use that space to drop off the bus students.
Please use that area as a true pull up and drop-off only. If you need to walk your child to
the gym, please park on the other side of the street and escort them across to the school.
Thank you for helping to make the morning transition safe for our bus students as well.
It’s not too late to register a child that is turning 5 by November 1st for
Kindergarten! If you or someone you know still need to register for Fall 2013
Kindergarten, please call any of the three elementary schools to set up a time to bring the
necessary paperwork and the child in to complete that process anytime between now and
the end of the school year.
The festivities for March is Reading Month continue at Emerson! Hopefully
your child is keeping up with their At-Home Reading Log so that they can earn their
T-shirt and get their name into a drawing for a brand new bike that is being donated by
the Kiwanis Club of Owosso from the House of Wheels. Keep reading and taking
Accelerated Reader quizzes!
I hope that you all have a fantastic weekend! As always…Go STATE , Go
Tigers in Spring Training and GO TROJANS!!!
Take Care~

INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act provide that no individual will be dis-criminated against on the basis of a disability. This protection applies not just to the student, but to all individuals who have access to the District’s programs and facilities. To obtain a copy of the district’s Section 504 policies and procedures, please contact any building Principal or the district’s Section 504 Coordinator, Mark Erickson, at 989-729-5502.
A student can access special education services through the proper evaluation procedures. Parent involvement in this pro-cedure is important and required by Federal (IDEA) and State law. Contact the building Principal through the school’s main office to inquire about evaluation procedures and programs.
If you suspect that your child may be a student with a disability who needs either special education or general education with related aids and services, please contact either your building Principal or the district's Section 504 Coordinator, Mark Erickson, at 989-729-5502.
Schwan’s is Back!
Schwan’s Food Delivery is back for another PTO
fundraiser! Brochures with order forms went
home with students this week and pre-orders
need to be returned by Thurs. March 21. We are
in competition with Central and Bryant for the
most pre-orders. We don’t want Mr. Sedlar
dishing up ice cream to Bryant or
Central students so get those
pre-orders in!
It is getting warmer, so how about
an ice cream treat from Schwan’s!
Frisbee Games!
With warm weather on the way, here are some easy
and fun games to play with the whole family!
In a large outdoor space, mark a start and finish line.
Give each participant a Frisbee, at “Go” each member
flings their Frisbee, races to it, tosses it again and
keeps going until they cross the finish line!
Or create an obstacle course. You might toss the
Frisbee over a tree, in between swings, or into a soccer
net. Time each person to find the winner!
Goodness and hard work are rewarded with respect.

Owosso Public Schools has scheduled Friday, May 17th, as Owosso Elementary Schools night at the ball
park! The first pitch will take place at 7:05 p.m. with the Lansing Lugnuts taking on the Great Lakes
Loons at Cooley Law School Stadium in Lansing! Besides the game there will
be entertainment performed by the “King of Cool”, Myron Noodleman! He is a
man in constant motion and will keep you laughing all night! If you are under
12, you also get a free hot dog, chips and soda voucher for the evening! Box
tickets run $11.00 and seats are situated behind home plate. Order forms went
home with students and need to be returned before Spring Break, March 28.
Send off for Our Troops
Young Chevrolet Cadillac has agreed to be a collection spot for anyone that would like to
donate pre-packaged snack items for the National Guard who are leaving on Monday. Dona-
tions of snacks, chips, cookies, relish trays, etc can be dropped off at Young’s thru Saturday.
You also can help in the distribution of the snacks to the troops on Sunday at 10:30 at Corunna
