„In my opinion, Emiliano Sampaio and his Mereneu Project have created something
very special with this recording, and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.”
Ed Partyka, conductor from HR Frankfurt Jazz Orchestra
The Mereneu Project was brought together in São Paulo - Brazil, in 2004, as an initiative of the musicians Emiliano
Sampaio (guitar), Gustavo Boni (bass), and Luis André (drums), with the purpose of researching the diversity of
popular music. Since its inception, the group has consistently explored the creativity in instrumental music,
developing a work that mix Brazilian rhythms, jazz elements and chamber music approach. The trio recorded its first
album in late 2007, comprised exclusively of original tunes, and release other 4 albums until last year.
In 2012, the trio moved to Graz, Austria, to make the Master course in one of the best jazz schools in Europe (KUG)
and invited 6 top musicians from many countries to record a new project as a nonet called “Mereneu Project”.
The nonet has already played in many festivals around Europe, as Most Jazz Fest 2014, Lamantin Jazz Festival
(Hungary), Graz Jazz Nacht 2014, Jazz Redoute 2014, Jazz Werkstatt 2013, Kug Redoute Festival 2013, and many Jazz

Some Words About…
All About Jazz about the track “Pe de Moca” (2012)
“What a lovely track. The choppiness of the opening guitar notes leads into a languid ballad that gets more dreamy as it goes
along. Just beautiful.”
Roberto Sion about “Mereneu Project” (2010)
"Conscious music, full of surprises, sort of Kurt Weill, Mingus, trying to get rid of the ‘jazz’ tyranny, while creativity. This is what
show Emiliano and his companions."
Paulo Braga about Pedro Assad and Meretrio “Na Cozinha” (2010)
"Watch out! They are coming...Pedro Assad and Meretrio are in the kitchen and b ringing the ingredients they acquired in
their productive research, high energy, good taste, humor, courage, mixing it with the mastery of a chef. Prepare your taste
buds because there is food full of spices and daring "culinary."
Ulisses Rocha about Meretrio debut CD (2007)
“Meretrio is one of those groups that are not satisfied with the common place, always seeking out novelties, language and
identity…”
