The University of Georgia Memorial Garden com-memorates men and wom-en of the University killed in battle. As a highly used space located outside of the Student Learning Center, the stone benches, flower-ing trees, and a reflection pool welcomes visitors and provides a space to mingle between classes or medi-tate. A skewed infinity sign is defined with stone benches to not only provide detail and formality, but also to allude to the under-lying longevity of honor and remembrance to our serving soldiers of the past, present, and future. The dynamism of forms and elements welcomes the visi-tor, embraces the mourn-ing, and serves as a memo-rial for loved ones lost in battle.

A terraced, abandoned lot currently lies at the terminus of Pulaski Street and- Broad Street on the edge of down-town Athens and the University of Georgia’s campus. By building spaces for a farmers market, art exhibition, plazas, and a cafe the site will be reabsorbed back into the Athens urban fabric. As a lover of the quirky, quaint Athens, I chose to reference the facades of old down-town buildings. Using the building footprints to create niches, the spaces within the architecture of the plaza are diversified to create various spaces for festivals or outdoor concerts.

The Beltline in At-lanta, Georgia is to be a twenty-two mile train and green-way loop surrounding the city center. As the trails are built, the city is rezoning the surround-ing land parcels. In sub-area 3, previous industrial zones are being transformed into mixed-use zones to include an active park. As the area transforms, it is crucial to establish connections between the mixed use zones and the park space. In the master plan, the pe-destrian can travel eas-ily through the spaces, gently transitioning from the urban fabric to the park.

Cherokee Avenue Plaza provides an easy transi-tion between Boulevard Crossing’s Park and the adjacent urban plaza space. The urban plaza welcomes visitors, pro-viding ample space for gathering with friends, people watching, and spectacular views of the park across Cherokee Avenue. The opposing side of the plaza begins to usher the visitor toward the various activities within the park. As one larger plaza, combin-ing the urban space, the street, and the formal park entrance, the sur-rounding community is provided with a space for community gatherings, outdoor concerts, and festivals.
