Stated Aims of EMLT Survey• to determine the dimensions of the

graduate job-mismatch in partner countries.• To investigate the determinants of

mismatch, i.e. Education, tenure, experience, gender, age, ethnic group , nationality, human capital, employment sector.

• To assess the impact of mismatch on wages. • To assess the impact of mismatch on job

satisfaction

Definitions of Concepts1. Graduate employment – a degree is

identified as an essential requirement of the job in the job specification.

2. Non-graduate employment – a degree is not an essential requirement

3. First job as first job after graduation – not including holiday jobs.

4. Unemployment- not having paid work.5. First degree – undergraduate Bachelor’s

degree or an integrated Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree.

Problems to be resolved with current survey

O Too many hypotheses requires lengthy questionnaire.

O Capturing routes into graduate employment – longitudinal approach for cohorts 2011-14.

O Managing national differences – pay, military service etc. One survey or four?

O Length of survey as an issue for completion.

O Any other issues………..

Mode of delivery of survey

O Online Advantages:O most cost-effectiveO Can send it through university

administrators so avoiding data protection issues

O All access same survey dataO All data being submitted automatically

O Online Disadvantages:O Lowest response rates- 15-20%. Gov.

requires 80% completion so UoW pays for follow up by phone.
