    Four Season Grow Market974 Dean Street | Brooklyn, NY

    Grow Haus, a renovated existing warehouse in Crown Heights, is within one of the Brooklyns food deserts. The project aims to provide year-round fresh food while managing stormwater and utilizing it throughout the building. Various forms of green and blue infrastructure work together to sustain indoor and outdoor growing. A ground-floor market and workshop space provide community engagement.

    By layering the buildings existing structure with a new ETFE skin, Grow Haus transforms from a hazardous warehouse to a light and airy space to grow food. A trellis system throughout the building provides visual continuity and more opportunity to involve visitors in the growing process.

    Center for Travel and TourismVia del Teatro di Marcello | Rome, Italy

    At the edge of the Capitaline Hill sits the dangerous and vehicle dominated Via del Teatro di Marcello. This space, between Michelangelos Campidoglio and the Teatro di Marcello, acts as a visitor drop-off zone. Tourist Vortex aims to transform this unusable space into an introductory path to Roman tourism through the use of three distinct programmatic nodes.

    Upon entering the Tourist Vortex, guests experience a museum and display space, a housing complex, and an indoor/outdoor theater. These spaces act as conjoined and connective tissue along the Via but can be accessed in any order. The issue of traffic and parking is addressed with an underground bus stop and drop off zone.

    The museum space circles guests around various historic displays and culminates in a rooftop cafe. From there, tourists enter a piazza with access to the lodging. The piazza opens onto an outdoor amphitheater and sunken 500 seat theater.

    Pratt Institute Graduate Dormitory

    83 Grand Avenue | Brooklyn, NY

    The Pratt Institute Graduate Student Dormitory questions relationship-forming habits of young adults and is designed for the specific needs of an urban art student. The building mass is split and shifted to create central studio spaces. There is a hierarchy of space: blocks of shared apartments, neighborhoods of shared kitchens, and communities of shared studio and lounges.

    The folds and seams in the facade correspond with the public and private space throughout the dormitory. Breathing points occur at personal balconies and a curtain wall system is deployed for the center studio spaces.

    Public Greenway re-invents one NYCHA neighborhood through the introduction of a more engaging public street. This street is coupled with a connective architecture that joins green spaces to ensure that the housing is tightly woven into its original urban fabric. This is crucial because the original superblock design of the complex causes deep isolation from the rest of its Fort Greene neighborhood.

    A History of Housing in New York City

    The principal act of this proposal is to introduce a new public street, a mostly pedestrian course of the existing towers roughly parallel to Myrtle Avenue. Unlike Myrtle Avenue, it will not be dominated by traffic due to its side street termination at each end. Thus it restores a condition of urban normalcy where there is today a retail/commercial desert. It can be dedicated to active public uses and the principal institutions that are already cluster on the site. Intersecting this street is a green or garden

    street that connects Fort Greene Park with Commodore Barry Park at the very heart of the enterprise. The open air market also is the keystone to the streets success by acting as a feeder by bridging Myrtle Avenue with the interior street.

    The x-axis of the site features an engaging street with commercial and green spaces. The y-axis is a core of civic spaces designed to draw community members into the site and onto the new street. This central civic core includes a school, a church, a library, a public market, an amphitheater, a community center, and a playground.

    Columbia University BoathouseWest 218th Street | Bronx, NY

    The Columbia University Boathouse aims to improve the conditions for collegiate athletes while also introducing a program for community involvement in the sport of rowing. Through a multi-purpose boat storage and training facility, this building houses areas for rowing education and training programs for inner-city youth in tandem with Columbia Universitys varsity collegiate rowing program.

    The design of the boathouse features a promenade, specifically for visitors, that circles the site and building and visually introduces one to the many aspects of training and preforming. This visual and physical connectivity remains in the training rooms and classrooms to promote a culture of learning through firsthand experience.

    Rosen Johnson Architects avoids momentary trends and strives for a timeless quality. In major renovation projects, RJA is knowledgeable about the style and period in which each building was created and is mindful of the context in which a major building renovation will be experienced. As Intern Architect for two seasons, I was involved in design decisions and representational work for several studies throughout New York City.

    OVERVIEW

    This Master Plan is designed to provide Cosmopolitan Associates, LLC

    with a cohesive set of solutions to existing problematic conditions

    at Cosmopolitan Houses. Many solutions and enhancements are

    presented with different cost choices for the purpose of offering

    Cosmopolitan Associates a variety of solutions to specific issues.

    For each option proposed Cosmopolitan Associates may choose

    the tier they think best able to redress the existing problems without

    being obligated to use that same tier in other areas.

    Cosmopolitan Houses occupies portions of 2 blocks in Woodside,

    NY and portions of 3 blocks in Sunnyside, NY consisting of a

    total 38 buildings. The nearly identical buildings were originally

    constructed in 1924 by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

    The 49 Fulton Street Study was developed by Rosen Johnson Architects for Trinity Real Estate. The study was initially a feasibility analysis of a retail addition to the ground floor of St. Margarets House. From there, we investigated the possibility of adding a residential tower to an unused lot at St. Margarets House.
