Sample Category 3.7

3.7 The blue number is the raw mean score. This is the average response based on a 5-point scale. The highest possible average score is 5.0, which corresponds to "strongly agree" on the rating scale. The lowest possible average score is 1.0, which corresponds to "strongly disagree" on the rating scale.

The gray and black bars represent the benchmarked normative data. The gray bar is centered over the average score received by all other organizations and extends to one standard deviation above and below this mean score. The black bar extends to two standard deviations above and below the mean. In the example above, the average score for all organizations is 3.5 and the standard deviation is 0.5.

The colored dot is your organization's score. In the example, the colored dot is at 3.7 - placing it between "neutral" and "moderately agree" on the rating scale. Compared to the normative data (gray and black bars), you can see that this score is slightly above average.

Color Coding

Raw Mean Score is between 2.5 and 3.5 or a z score between -0.8 and zero. A yellow dot indicates that there might be problems that need addressing and further investigation into the nature and severity of the problems is warranted.

Raw Mean Score is below 2.5 or z score is below -0.8. A red dot indicates that there is probably a problem that needs addressing and action or further investigation is required.

* z scores are standard scores that allow you to understand how your scores compares to the scores of other organizations. A z score of zero is average. A score of +1.0 is one standard deviation above the mean and a score of -1.0 is one standard deviation below the mean.

Responses to Short-Answer Questions

Feedback – What specific kinds of feedback would you like to receive?

• I would like to have a more systematic feedback process in place, maybe with monthly or quarterly meetings with my boss where we sit down and talk about how I have been doing - areas where I might improve and areas where I am doing fine.

Feedback – What suggestions do you have for improving the feedback process at ABC Company?

• If we could make feedback more about development and less about discipline I would feel better about the process.

Stress and Workload – What specific aspects of your job cause you to feel overworked?

• Demands of senior partners that come in at the last minute from clients cause me lots of stress. Often it is just not possible to make changes to the presentation at such a late date and I feel like it reflects on me when I cannot deliver without staying at work until very late. This happens quite often.
