Service Description Internships are a very important element of the process. When companies

hire they give more attention to individuals who complete internships

because they know that they have gained certain real world experience and

knowledge. Internships have been proven to increase a person’s chance for

employment. Studies have found that individuals, who have completed

internships, on average,make about 9% more than an individual who does

not have the internship experience (national Associations of Colleges). An

internship allows an individual to gain working knowledge, hands on

experience, interviewing and negotiation skills, working and building

relationships with coworkers and ability to manage time, schedule, and get a

taught, and well as the length of time in class, will depend on the need,

referral, and vocational goal of each person served. Some of the

software and programs that can be taught are: Microsoft Operating

System (Windows 7 and/or Windows 8), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,

Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access), Accessibility Programs (Dragon

Dictate, ZoomText, MAGIC, JAWS, WYNN), and QuickBooks. Other

programs can be taught. All training is customized to student needs and

can fit into a 600 unit program. Students, teachers, and counselors

chose programs that will be taught at the beginning of the course.

Baseline skills determine skill levels taught. Classes run Monday through

Thursday. Friday can be used as a makeup day, but we prefer individuals

to adhere to the routine of Monday through Thursday. Generally, we can

accommodate a morning or afternoon class, but this may vary based on

the instructor’s schedule. Students are expected to attend class in

business professional attire.

The Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest

science and teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of first

aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes and sudden illnesses, head,

neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to

breathing and cardiac emergencies to help victims of any age-adults

(about 12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12

years of age). Students who successfully complete this course will

receive a certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for

two years.

Service Name Transition Conference

Service Description


The purpose of the Transition Conference is to present transition options

to students and families including career options, career exploration, IEP

transition statement development, maximizing benefits as the students

go to work, the family’s role during transition, supports for community

employment including long-term supports, independent living options,

transportation options and other transition resources. The conference

will incorporate seven to ten hours of individual and group activities as

well as training. The written report will include specific career options

explored by the student, information provided to the student and family

regarding transition services and vocational options, and the support the

student needs to participate in the activities.

Purpose of this self-paced training is to improve consumers’ keyboarding and

10-key speed and accuracy. Training is appropriate for beginners and people

with more advanced skills. With assistance from the Vocational Instructor,

consumers will practice keyboarding and 10-key skills using Mavis Beacon

software and timed-writing materials. Consumers will be scored every day for

speed and accuracy. Objective is 35 wpm with 95% accuracy. Training starts at

two to three weeks (Mon.-Fri., 18.75 Hours/Week) in length; recommend

additional authorization, if needed, to achieve competitive speed based on

consumer’s rate of wpm increase per week.

This training is designed to teach people basic computer skills. Training is

self paced. Students will study online tutorials, view explanatory videos,

and receive assistance and one-on-one instruction from Vocational

and navigate the internet, have created an internet address, and be able

to send an email with an attachment. Training is one week (Mon.-Fri.,

Service Description


An 84-hour course on basic nursing skills that is approved by the State of

Ohio Department of Health. Includes a 16-hour clinical experience at a

nearby long-term care facility. Upon successful completion of the course,

consumer will receive a certificate of achievement that is required to

take exam to become a State Tested Nurse Aide. Tuition includes books.

State exam fee is separate; state exam offered on site. Customers will

need to purchase one set of scrubs for clinicals.

The Educational Enhancement Program is to assist customers in achieving GED’s

and/or to enhance general basic academic skills for improvement of one’s

vocational options. The Educational Enhancement program provides

preparing for productive careers and offers the community employees that

have established general educational skills needed by Employers. The average

Janitorial Skills Training - while participating in this program, a customer has the

opportunity to get paid while gaining experience and skills that are necessary to

perform entry-level janitorial or housekeeping tasks. Hands-on training and

instruction are offered to assist an individual in learning various cleaning

techniques, appropriate work habits, proper care and use of janitorial equipment,

This is the first step when participants are referred to Entrepreneurial

Programming. Phase one consists of one on one instruction on how to complete

a Business Feasibility Plan and an explanation of how to access resources

needed to compete the plan. The Feasibility Plan includes a description of

products or services, a market analysis, pricing and profitability and a plan for

further action. Completion of the Feasibility Plan is required before a participant

can begin Phase Two. This phase should be completed over a 30-day period and

not exceed 600 units.

includes regulatory requirements and an operational plan. Assistance will be

provided on the steps required to start a business in the state of Ohio. These

Employer Identification Number (EIN), registering with the Ohio Department of

Taxation, reporting newly hired employees to the Ohio New Hire Reporting

Center, contacting the Bureau of Worker’s Compensation, and obtaining proper

licenses and permits. This phase should be completed over a 60-day period.

Individual must demonstrate knowledge in the use of Windows operating system and

typing abilities of no less than 27 WPM with less than a 10% error ratio. Individual must

have documented reading abilities at no less than the high school level and have a high

school diploma or GED. Students are required to complete an intake and assist in the

development of individualized service plan prior to the start of their training (10-UOS)

or a stand-alone authorized intake.

Service Description


Program is designed to provide measurable specific training in Word and Excel

developing skills to a marketable level for today’s job market. Students are

scheduled 3.5 hours a day. Homework of 2.5 hours a day will be assigned for

completing hands-on activities that measure overall mastery of specific skills.

Duration of program is based on progress and attendance for a total UOS of

600 scheduled over a 4 week period. Specific program hours will be

determined between the consumer, vendor and referral source. Staff will

provide one-on-one support, step-by-step instruction, visual demonstration

and simulated tasks and provide reinforcement as individual demonstrates

task. Students will be provided a textbook (at a separate fee) as reference

material and to assist with skills retention.

work with their hands. Individuals should demonstrate independent

increase their typing speed on a weekly basis by 35-40%. Individuals

must have documented reading abilities at no less than the 8th grade

level (High school level if scheduled for Computer Skills Training II) and

have a high school diploma or GED. Students are required to complete

an intake and assist in the development of individualized service plan

prior to the start of their training (10-UOS) or a stand-alone authorized

intake.

training for learning to use the alpha and numeric keyboard. Students

are scheduled to attend 3.5 hours a day. Duration of this program is

based on student’s attendance with a total UOS of 480 planned over a 3-

the consumer, vendor and referral source. Staff will provide one-on-one

support, step-by-step instruction, visual demonstration and simulated

tasks and provide reinforcement as individual demonstrates task.

Service Name Home Health Aide

Minimum Program

Requirements

In order to determine eligibility and acceptance into the program,

completed background checks and negative TB must be sent with the

referral. Participants must meet Ohio criminal background standards for

Home Health Care. Class requires some independent study of course

materials.

Instructional

Techniques

Staff will provide lectures, demonstrate hands-on skills, provide quizzes

to test knowledge and guide students through learning hard skills.

Instruction also includes peer-to-peer learning, videos and hands-on

learning.

Service Description


The home health aide (HHA) program is designed to train entry level

healthcare professionals to support individuals in their home, in a

hospital setting or in in a nursing home.

Skills performed by HHA's include: infection control, safety and

emergency procedures, promoting independence and individual rights,

communication and interpersonal skills as well as taking basic vital signs,

transferring patients, dressing and feeding patients, bed baths, range of

motion activities, positioning patients on their side, as well as basic ADL's.

After completing the 75 hour training program, students will be well

prepared to enter into an entry level HHA position. The class is 3 weeks

long and students must complete 75 hours of instructional time. Must

have 5 people, maximum of 10, for class.

Service Description


Transport an individual not receiving other services from PiE. Miles are

billed from the closest PiE office to the pick-up point, to the drop off

point, and back to the closest office. UOS are charged while individual is

in vehicle and if staff must wait before returning individual back to pick

up point or other destination.



Zone 1 Individual Rate $5.00 UOS + $1.50 Mile

Group Rate $2.50 UOS + $0.75 Mile


Service Description


STNA, GED, other test, class or academic tutoring is provided one on one,

tailored to the individual’s needs. Focus is on learning materials, applying

concepts and test-taking strategies.

With this program, adult learners can prepare for the GED test, refresh skills

for entrance tests and/or improve general academic skills for daily living

activities. The ultimate goal of this program is to improve career options.

Locator tests will be administered upon entering this service to assess skill

level. GED practice tests are available prior to taking the actual exam.

Assistance in scheduling the GED exam is also available. Learning is flexible

and materials are provided. All tutoring is provided by a certified teacher.

Service Name Driver’s Permit Tutoring (Book Portion)

Service Description


Services will be time limited and specific to individual needs. Staff

providing training will meet requirements for working with the

population and hold a valid Ohio Driver’s License. Classes will be held as

per consumer need to cover specific areas of difficulty in passing the

written test. This service will not exceed 20 hours total without an

attempt at the written test. Should a non-passing grade be obtained in

the first test additional hours will be requested to work on the areas

identified as problematic, this service will not exceed 10 hours without

staffing the case for further guidance. The Ohio Permit Book will be used

as the curricula with necessary flash cards and a sample written test

obtained by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles website.

Service Description This program helps to prepare individuals for general office employment by

providing individualized training in clerical and computer functions with the

opportunity to apply these functions, whenever possible, doing paid work in

an actual business setting within Fifth Third Bank Regional Headquarters (600

Superior Ave, East, Cleveland, OH 44114) or UCP of Greater Cleveland (The

Iris S. Bert L. Wolstein Center, 10011 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44106).

Requirements for participation include math ability at 5th grade level and

reading ability at 7th grade level. Services provided include: skills assessments

in basic clerical procedures and computer abilities, training in keyboarding

and computer software applications USING Microsoft Office, training in

general office skills, including: business English and math, filing, proofreading,

business machine operation, collating, telephone skills, proper office

protocol, behavior and attire, and hands-on paid work experience (usually

accidents. The license they receive is good for 3 years. They will have to

get the licensed renewed every 3 years, or if the operator is involved in

an accident any time during that 3 years, which involves a refresher in

the course, in order to re-evaluate the operator. Accredited by the Ohio

This program is an individually designed program which can equip trainees with

specific computer skills. Program can be adjusted to meet the individual’s

specific vocational requirements. Developed with the work-ready participant in

mind, this program offers trainees the opportunity to gain some of the more

specialized skills necessary for employment. The curriculum will be tailored to

meet the interests, skills, and experience of the participant.

Training is self-paced, instructor led. Builds administrative support skills such as

have the basic skills to secure employment in an office setting and would like to

add QuickBooks Training to their skillset. This one week QuickBooks training will

assist consumers in learning the basics of accounting and functioning within the

QuickBooks program. Professionalism, proper office attire, interpersonal/social

skills, and punctuality/attendance will be emphasized throughout the training.

Certification will be received after completion of the training program.

Designed for students who are entering the field of dishwashing and with no

experience or have a significant gap in employment. The program aims to

enhance the students soft skills, knowledge of dishwashing techniques and

strategies, and strengthen overall work skills/knowledge to increase

employability. Program is 20 Hours/Week for 3 Weeks, Monday-Friday. The

first week will be in class instruction about sanitation and cleanliness, water

temperature, chemical levels, etc. The student will then receive hands-on

instruction in a competitive work setting. Students will participate in an

instructor led group discussion daily and complete a daily journal activity.

Students must demonstrate the ability to independently complete all tasks

associated with Dishwashers as defined by O*Net.

consumers who are already proficient in a Microsoft Office product such as

various approved tests, demonstrating the consumer’s knowledge, skills, and

abilities to productively use a Microsoft Office product. Duration of the

program will vary depending on the amount of MOS Certifications the

consumer would like to receive (there are 14 different certifications). Average

duration per MOS application is 4 hours/day for 5 days.

Vocational Services Unlimited (VSU) Clerical/Computer Skills Training supplies

basic clerical skills to consumers who are interested in obtaining an entry level

general office position. During the (3) week training program, consumers will

be taught the basic fundamentals of excellent administrative and clerical skills

in a professional office setting. Classes include a focus on increasing computer

knowledge to include Microsoft applications, increasing typing speed, proficient

email and internet usage, and pleasant, appropriate phone etiquette.

Professionalism, proper office attire, interpersonal/social skills, and

CSR skills to consumers who are interested in obtaining an entry level customer

service position. During the (3) week training program, consumers will be

taught the basic fundamentals of excellent customer service skills in a

professional office setting. Classes include phone etiquette, computer

knowledge to include Microsoft applications, typing speed, and email and

internet usage to develop skills required as a CSR. In addition, the consumer

will be taught various CSR techniques on how to excel in customer care.

Professionalism, proper office attire, interpersonal/social skills, and

punctuality/attendance will be emphasized throughout the training. (Duration:

200 UOS/Week for 3 Weeks.)
