The 2nd SHRM India Annual Conference was held at the Hyatt Regency, Gurgaon on September 19-20, 2013.
The two-day conference hosted at India’s millennium city brought together over 500 participants – HR
practitioners, industry heads, management gurus, academicians and thought leaders from India and abroad.

A noted entrepreneur and expert on the 'Future of Work',
Ben Casnocha has inspired conversations on
entrepreneurship, careers and the future of work.
Ben presented ‘The New People Pact’ for future
ready corporations and suggested a symbiotic
relationship between the employer and the employees, whereby both
of them mutually bene�t from each other’s capabilities and resources.
He also discussed strategies and made recommendations to achieve this.
In addition, he also made a strong case for encouraging network
development, including setting up of corporate alumni associations.
Je� Pon, Chief Human Resources and Strategy O�cer, brings with him
years of experience in developing HR standards across organizations.
In his session he shared his perspective on ‘Emerging Workplace Trends’.
He felt in addition to knowledge expertise, future ready HR professionals
should have various behavioral competencies including relationship
management, ethical practice, consultation skills and global outlook to name a few. He
remarked: “Going forward HR will need both a physical and a virtual people strategy.”
David Lewis, CEO of Pinnacle Performance, delivered an energetic
master class on ‘Intention- based Communication‘ – a session that spoke
of in�uencing all kinds of an audience with powerful communication
skills, a glimpse of which was demonstrated through exercises he
conducted. The panel discussion on HR Analytics e�ectively explored
current trends and prospects in predictive analytics, enabling role of HR technology and also
showcased the strengths of SAP HR software in decision making scenarios.

we strive to present new dimensions of discussion to reach conclusive ideas that will
simplify HR best practices in the emerging industry. The HR practitioners of the

A thought leader on global workplace diversity and
inclusion Dr. Shirley Davis Sheppard has been
responsible for positioning SHRM as the leader
in the diversity and inclusion �eld.
Day two began with her session on the
'Transformation of HR' where she brought to light the fact that more
than 55% of CEOs in emerging markets faced a real crisis in recruiting
and retaining high potential middle managers. She advocated work �ex
as a business imperative and outlined indispensible competencies for the
new age workforce.
Chief executives, business leaders and conference participants took center-stage in the
CEOs in the Arena session that focused on ‘How to Turn Generosity into Social
Responsibility’. Enforced social welfare, challenges of integration into core functions of
business and rise of bureaucratic hurdles were some of the major themes covered in the session.
The entertainment at the Conference included a live performance by Contraband,
a stand-up comedy act by Raghav Mandava and an engaging HR Quiz, hosted by Raj Dam
and Prof. Vijayan.
