EMPOWERINGwith mentoring

We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to have experiences that facilitate

goal-setting and life-readiness. Our Take Stock in Children (TSIC) program provides an avenue for

students to overcome the daily challenges they face and put them on a path towards reaching their full

potential; both inside and out of the classroom.

Students are provided with a mentor that serves as a role model, and each student is also promised a

minimum 2-year Florida Prepaid Scholarship. Additionally, along with hands-on development

opportunities like college tours and career days, students are assigned a College Success Coach to

help guide them along their academic path.

"

I just want to do something that won't let my parents struggle and will help them move forward... now as a senior I'm glad to say... I know the steps I need to take and that's all because of Teddy (mentor).

"

It's helpful for these children to have someone that can stand by them through all these difficult times in school.

Skills for Life was published and distributed to TSIC students. This activity book contains over 40 soft-skill building activities for mentors to complete with students, increasing employability.

27 students took a 2-day college

tour trip visiting 4 Florida universities.

On Citi Career Day, students learned about different career paths,

business etiquette, professional attire, and how

to prepare for success.

EMPOWERINGwith school supplies

In Hillsborough County 67% of students rely on free and reduced-price lunch*. As a result, many of

these students cannot afford basic school supplies. Because of their dedication, teachers often spend

over $500 per year from their own paychecks so that their students can succeed**. Here at the

Foundation, we strive to provide classrooms and students in need with the necessary tools for learning.

"

Teaching Tools provided me with backpacks for the kids at school who either didn't have one or had one that was falling apart. It was so sweet to see how excited they were when they got their new one! Also, because of the supplies from Teaching Tools, I can send kids home with the things they need so they can do their homework.

"

local teachers say supplies from Teaching Tools have significantly impacted their classroom ***

We literally had nothing after the fire. HEF came in and brought all the supplies we needed to our temporary location and we set up classrooms within one day. Even after that, HEF continued providing invaluable support allowing our teachers unlimited shopping at the Teaching Tools Store.

POUNDS OF RELIEF ITEMS COLLECTED FOR LEE8,713

Our priority is to ensure that all students have the same opportunities for success and that includes

helping motivated students afford a college education. In addition to scholarships through the

Take Stock in Children Program, we also provide scholarships to high school seniors as they take their

next steps towards a promising future.

Words cannot begin to describe how truly grateful I am... I had always feared how I would pay for college... This scholarship meant a great deal to me because through it, I can transcend above my previous circumstances and achieve my lifelong dreams.

Lee Elementary during the fire

When disaster impacts our community, Hillsborough Education Foundation embraces the role that we

can play to help ensure that learning is not interrupted. Last fall, Lee Elementary, one of Tampa's most

historic schools, caught fire following Hurricane Irma. We were proud to join the relief effort collecting

donations from as far as New York and Colorado. Additionally, in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, we

were also happy to provide our support to students in Puerto Rico.
