Dear friends and well-wishers,

With great delight, we present to you this annual book, which captures the journey of the year that was and the path for the one that is going to be. In the interest of brevity, we will try to contain it in four key elements – the impact that we created, the work that we did, the way we engaged stakeholders and the manner in which we grew.

IMPACT During 2014-15, we benefitted 100,000+ children and youth through our programmes in school education, employability and technical education. In an impact study conducted by KPMG, the SMART programme, our flagship initiative, brought out a social return on investment (SROI) of 13.29, that is, 13.29 of social value is created for every 1 that Tech Mahindra Foundation invests in the programme. I am also very happy to report that we spent considerably more money on CSR than was mandated through Section 135 of the Companies Act 2013.

PROGRAMMES The Foundation’s programmes in Education and Employability expanded to schools to improve learning in schools and build capacities of government school teachers; and 65 SMART centres. Disability remained an underlying running theme across both programmes.

ENGAGEMENT AND OUTREACH Our volunteering programme grew in a big way – with at least one activity every day, and we engaged almost 10% of the total 100,000+ strong workforce of Tech Mahindra. In addition to these people ambassadors within the company, we brought out many publications, films and digital media resources, which further advanced our work under corporate social responsibility.

HUMAN RESOURCES As an organization, we grew to become a 50+ strong team, spread over 10 locations in India. We attracted and worked with some of the most qualified, experienced and committed social sector professionals and organizations. I am happy to report that we also forged a number of corporate partnerships with Mahindra Auto, Schneider, Voltas, Tally and so on.

As we venture into yet another year of challenging, interesting and useful work, we put our heads, hands and hearts together, and call you to Rise for Good with us.

ARISE, or the All Round Improvement in School Education programme works with Municipal Corporations of six cities of India, to develop existing government/non-government schools into model schools of excellence.

It builds upon four crucial, connected domains of school improvement :

academic, to ensure that children acquire grade-appropriate learning with understanding,

social, to ensure that families and communities participate actively in the process of education along with children, teachers, school management and the system,

infrastructural, to ensure that schools and classrooms are happier, effective places of learning, and

organizational, to ensure that schools evolve as effective units of education, functioning efficiently as well-managed organizations

ARISE+, or or All Round Improvement in Special Education, is a special programme which encompasses the Foundation’s work in the area of school education for children with disabilities.

Through the ARISE+ programme, the Foundation works with diverse groups within the domain, and empowers children with physical disabilities (including sight impairment, hearing/ speech impairment and loco-motor disabilities), and a range of mental disorders and disabilities across India.

ARISE+ essentially focuses on the following interventions :

early detection of disability in children,

support for parents, teachers and other caregivers with techniques to take care of children with special needs

support in education of children with special needs and disabilities

trainers, who will further train teachers and other professionals engaged in the education process.

Shikshaantar also enhances English language capacities of teachers in the Corporation of Chennai system of municipal schooling, particularly on subject matter and pedagogy, building a sustainable and cost-effective network for English language teacher development.

Shikshaantar, which literally means creating a difference in education, works with a vision of creating happier classrooms, by empowering the teachers and enhancing the system.

The most important component of the Shikshaantar programme is capacity building and training of teachers, principals, school inspectors, education officers, leaders and management officials. Through the In-service Teacher Education Institute (ITEI), the Foundation is building capacities of thousands of teachers, heads of schools, and education functionaries in the primary schooling system of Delhi.
