The BA Bin Activator is a device of tapered conical shape that due to vibration facilitates material flow from hoppers or silos. It consists of a seamless carbon or stainless steel cone manufactured on a sheet metal lathe, a seamless SINT® engineering polymer seal with integrated upper and lower flange, suspensions for connec-tion of the Bin Activator with the silo, as well as one or two electric vibrators.

1.1 Description

To fit the BA Bin Activator, the silo cone has to be shorter than usual, leaving a wide outlet section. A flange supplied before or together with the Bin Activator is welded to the silo outlet on site. Special suspensions and a seamless flanged SINT® engineering polymer seal form a flexible connection between silo and Bin Activator. One or two electric vibrators fitted to the unit generate vibration of the Bin Activator every time the feeding de-vice beneath the silo is started for material extraction. During operation the Bin Activator describes a gyratory movement which is transmitted to the material inside the silo. The result is smooth material flow through the Bin Activator outlet into the connected feeder.

BA Bin Activators are used in various industrial applications to facilitate discharging of powdery or granular materials from silos or hoppers. The use of this equipment ensures optimum feeding of the material and caus-ing “mass flow” inside the silo and avoiding bridging or rat holing phenomena.

2.1 Main features

The main function of the bin activator is to allow downflow of material and the consequent extraction of ma-terials from storage silos; it must in no way be considered as a batcher as it is not designed for this purpose.

2.2 Indications for use

Bin activators are not designed for operating in potentially explosive atmospheres or with materials that are harmful in contact and/or if inhaled, or hazardous from the bacteriological or viral point of view.

The Manufacturer must be advised if the machine has to match such requirements.

The outlet cone represents the vibrating part of the Bin Activator; its function is to convey the material extracted.The technology used allows manufacturing cones with 45° inclination without welds. Cones with diameter ranging from Ø400 to Ø 1800 mm are made in a single piece, while those from Ø2100 to Ø 3000 mm consist of an upper cone and a lower cone.The crosspieces, which support the deflector, are housed inside.The latter are so shaped as to facilitate downflow of material; this prevents material stagnation.At the lower end of the cone, it will be made a cut having a diameter suitable for the material outlet spout.

The suspension blocks connect the outlet cone to the flange welded to the silo.These must perform the following functions: - Supporting the weight of the Bin Activator combined with that of the material column above, inside the silo. - Preventing vibrations being transmitted to the silo.The number of suspension blocks to be used depends on the BA model, the silo height, and specific weight of the material. There are two types of suspension blocks, as shown in the Figure and indicated in the Table below.

L type suspension blocks are similar to the std (S type) but longer.The “L” type is used as standard on Bin Activators having diameter 2500 and 3000.They are supplied as optional if aluminium silos are present as they have thicker flanges compared to those made of Carbon steel or AISI.

Deflector

On vibrating, it brakes the material bridge formed inside the silos, allowing material to flow.It is bolted to the crosspieces inside the cone and is therefore easy to dismantle.The series configuration DST (conical or convex) depends on the Bin Activator size.A deflector with different inclination can be used (for all BA sizes) if the features of the material and storage conditions requires it.Fill in as follows in the field that defines the deflector:

Seal

It is the most important and delicate component of the Bin Activator.

Functions: - closing and sealing the space between the silo and vibrating cone to protect the material contained from the

outside environment. - preventing, along with the suspension blocks, the vibrations from being transmitted to the silo, by isolating

it from the underlying vibrating cone.

The seal is obtained by moulding high resistance SINT® technopolymer.

The main features that distinguish it from traditional seals are: - it is seamless; - it is reinforced in the middle, i.e. the part most subjected to stress; - the upper and lower edges are drilled during moulding to ensure rapid and precise bolting to the silo flanges

and the feeder.

Range of technopolymers SINT®:

- SINT®ER (Antistatic) suitable for all products.Operating temperature: -20°C / +80°C

- SINT®AL for handling food products, where FDA certification is required.Operating temperature: -20°C / +80°C

- SINT®HTR suitable for all products Operating temperature: -20°C / +120°C

These are perforated cold-galvanised flanges.

They can be made from AISI 304L/316L, on request.

Electric vibrators and voltage supply

The great flexibility and special structure of the suspension blocks allow the use of smaller vibrators as com-pared to those used on typical extracting devices.

Accessories - Pneumatic decompressor

Other pneumatic aids

The air inside the outlet cone generates a counterpressure that slows down and sometimes prevents downflow of light materials or material that does not flow easily.

The pneumatic decompressor is used for releasing the air to the outside.

The BACKSTOP valve guarantees one-way flow of air, i.e. only to the outside.

It is advisable to carry out periodic cleaning of the decompressor by proceeding as follows: - Close the drainage tap; - Fit a pipe to the hose connector with compressed air supply at approx. 5 ~ 6 bar; - Blow in air for a limited time to clear the duct of eventual obstructions; - Disconnect the compressed air supply pipe; - Re-open the tap and restore the initial configuration.

It is meant for supporting the Bin Activator and for bolting the sleeve.

It must telescope into the silo cone so as to create a safety collar for the seal.

It can subsequently be welded by adding reinforcing plates; their number and dimensions are shown in the assembly drawings of each part.

NOTE: The reinforcing plates between the silo and silo flange are not supplied by WAM®.

NOTE: The flanges for BA235÷300 are provided with two 180º sectors and the finishing is not included.

On request: The optional finishings available are 3.00.10 (Carbon Steel) or A.00.G0. (AISI 304L).

In silos made from fibreglass, it can be used a special connection between the silo flange and the vibrating cone.

In these cases, the manufacturer must provide a flange suitably sized and reinforced according to the application parameters, with diameter and drilling suitable to allow coupling with the following:

There is triple drilling: - the innermost holes are threaded and used for fixing the gasket and relative counter-flange - one for assembling the suspension blocks - the outer hole for fixing the connection to the silo flange.

N.B.: The WAM® supply does not include the bolts for fixing the union to the silo flange made of fibreglass.

It is compulsory to use M16 class 8.8 bolts (if made from iron) or M16 class A2-80 (if made from AISI).

If the silo has a 70º inclination, the H value given in the drawings will remain unchanged but, obviously, the SILO CONE EXTERNAL DIAMETER will change.

Refer to the Table below for correct values.

The assembly drawings given on the following pages refer to a standard application of a silo extracting de-vice characterized by a final cone inclination of 60º.

Operation noise

The noise levels of the BA with electric vibrator supplied by WAM® expressed in dB(A) are obtained by read-ings in a free field, at maximum performance, at four cardinal points at a distance of 1.5 m from the machine.

The values measured are:

75 dB(A)The user may obtain values different from those indicated depending on the location.

It shall be the responsibility of the installer to have noise level checkings carried out on the machine applied to a silo filled with material (in operating conditions).
