Risk factor of Nephrotic Syndrome
Many diseases and conditions can cause glomerular damage and lead to
nephrotic syndrome
1) systemic lupus erythematosus• chronic inflammatory disease that can affect
various parts of the body•is an autoimmune condition, meaning that your body's immune system attacks your own tissues•Lupus can cause inflammation of the filtering
device in the kidneys•Damage to the glomeruli can prevent the kidneys
from filtering wastes from the bloodstream.• the kidneys may “leak” protein from the blood
into the urine
2)Diabetic Nephropathy• is a complication that occurs in some diabetic•Excess blood sugar accumulates in the kidney
causing them to become inflamed and unable to carry out their normal function.
•This leads to the leakage of proteins into the urine.
3)Amyloidosis.• This disorder occurs when substances called amyloid proteins accumulate in your organs. •Amyloid buildup often affects the kidneys,
damaging their filtering system.
Others are:•Membranous nephropathy: condition when there is some
thickening of the membrane in the glomeruli which makes the glomeruli 'leaky' to protein.
• Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis: condition where small scars develop on some glomeruli
•Renal vein thrombosis:occurs when a blood clot blocks a vein connected to the kidney, can cause nephrotic syndrome.• HIV: the virus’ antigens provoke an obstruction in the
glomerular capillary’s lumen that alters normal kidney function• Hepatitis B: certain antigen present during hepatitis can
accumulate in the kidneys and damage them•Henoch-Schönlein purpura: a disease that causes small blood
vessels in the body to become inflamed and leak
