Find out how michievious your own shadow can be in this visually delightful show from Australia’s Patch Theatre Company. Using light, paper, water and magic to bring the story of a girl and her shadow to life on the New Victory stage, ME AND MY SHADOW will fill your students with wonder and laughter.

Provide this resource to all teachers and chaperones attending the show.

• ME AND MY SHADOW will use light and paper screens to create several amazing shadow illusions. See if you can figure out how they create all of their stage magic while you are watching the show!

• Remember the delightful PIGS, BEARS AND BILLY GOATS GRUFF that played at the New Victory in 2008? That show was also created by Patch Theatre Company.

• ME AND MY SHADOW didn’t begin with a script. Rather, the creative team started with the idea that they wanted "Light" to be a character, and they experimented with shadow, paper bags, large sheets of paper, water to develop the show. The story developed from this exploration.

heads up ME AND MY SHADOW will be performed in The New Victory Theater, a 499-seat, three-level theater. This might be the first time your students have been inside of a venue like this. Make sure to look out for the beautiful putti* in the ceiling decor, and see if you can find all of the bees (the official mascot of the theater) in the design throughout the theater. While the theater may seem big, every seat provides a terrific view!

* A putto (plural putti, /ˈpˈti/ or poo-tee)[1] is a figure in a work of art depicted as a chubby male child, usually nude and sometimes winged. Putti are distinct from cherubim. In the plural, "the Cherubim" refers to the biblical angels. While "cherubs" represent the second order of angels,[2] putti are secular and present a non-religious passion.

Where do you see shadows as we travel to the theater?

How do different kinds of light change a shadow's shape and size?

What would you do if your shadow didn’t follow your every move?
