Problem Statement

The client wanted to be digitally superior to their competitors and be able to provide cutting-edge technology to their patients. Being connected 24x7 with their patients was also a huge motivation.

Business RequirementsObjective

Filling EMR forms for each patient with the right ICD Code is a time-consuming process for the doctors. The objective is to create a solution that will improve efficiency for the doctors so they can spend more time with Patients in place of documentation.

Impact and involvement of stakeholders

Doctors: Save time and effort on documentation, by taking notes and filling the patient EMR forms using speech recognition. They can focus on patients and spend quality time with them.Management: Work with ICD providers and hospital ERP, and help with the integration of the product that is being developed.

Key Requirements

Doctors should be able to use the system hands-free:

● Fill the EMR form using Speech to Text● Apply AI + ML for improving the input and keyword recognition over time● Integrate with ICD providers and get the right matching code related to the diagnosing● Allow offline speech capture and form filling● Integrate with Hospital ERP to for patient appointment and EMR details

Solution Dynamics and Interactions1. The front-end was built using React Native which maintains a common code base for

iOS, Android and Web. OS-specific features were customized to ensure maximum reuse of the code and future support and enhancements across platforms.

2. The Backend was developed using Python Django framework to provide quick development turnaround while maintaining a scalable, robust and secure architecture.

3. The application was deployed on AWS Elastic Beanstalk infrastructure, which enabled a seamless auto-scaling.

4. Google APIs were used for speech recognition to parse through Amazon AI for identifying the context and fill the EMR form fields.

5. Integration with ICD database was enabled for capturing the correct ICD-10 code for diagnostic.

6. HashedIn homegrown product SQueaLy was used for Analytics and reports engine.

Our Solution Structure

We created an online patient portal for the client, the benefits were as follows:

● Helped the patients to get access to their medical and pharmacy records with the goal of reducing overall stay at Hospitals

● Delegated access to authorized relatives for viewing children and elderly patients’ records

● Medical score for the patient was calculated on basis of health parameters like age, blood sugar level, pulse, heartbeats, triglycerides, etc.

● Enabling communication between facilities and patients without a physical visit

● Educational articles sent to patients regularly

Solution Approach

User InterfaceUI/UX was built keeping minimum clicks in mind. React Native was used to build the application in combination with Realm for offline data capture and sync. Interfaces were kept simple to keep application lightweight and simple to use.
