Note: Once key pairs are created, the keymaster must send keymaster public key to Guidance Software for the first part of the SAFE Server initialization.

Creating the Keymaster Encryption Key1. Click View→Encryption Keys from the drop down menu.‐

2. In the Tree pane, right click the Encryption Keys object, then click New.

3. Click Next in the New Encryption Key dialog.

4.Enter the name Keymaster.

5.Enter a password.

6.Re enter the password.‐

7.Click Finish

8.In the Password dialog, click Yes to export a copy of the public key file.

9.In the Copy Public Key File dialog, browse to your C:\Program Files\EnCase6\Keys folder.

10.Click Save to accept the default name of Keymaster.PublicKey.

11.Click OK in the Password dialog showing the location of the saved encryption key.

Submitting the Keymaster Key

Once you have generated your keymaster encryption key, you need to submit it to Guidance Software to obtain a cert file. To do this, perform the following.

1. When you purchase EnCase Network Authentication Server, you will receive an email with a Safe Setup ID and a link to the keymaster request page.

2.Generate a keymaster encryption key as outlined in Creating the Keymaster Encryption Key on page 21.

3.Copy the keymaster.publickey to an internet accessible machine, as you need to use the internet to submit your‐ keymaster key. The file is typically located at C:\Program Files\EnCase6\Keys on the machine that you used to generate the keymaster encryption key.

4. Open a web browser and click the link in the above email, or navigate tohttp://www.guidancesoftware.com/kmp/kmrequest.asp(http://www.guidancesoftware.com/kmp/kmrequest.asp).

5.Fill in all of the fields above. The Safe Setup ID is found on the email sent from Guidance Software.

6.Click Browse and point to your keymaster.publickey file.

7.Enter any additional comments and click Submit.

Once your information is processed, you will receive an email containing a cert file. This may take up to 24 business hours.
