    INTRODUCING THE 2013 ENCORE

    A THOUGHTFUL TAKE ON LUXURY

Meet Encore. Buicks new luxury small crossover that delivers the brands signature style, interior acoustic refnement andcollection o luxury amenities in a maneuverable, versatile and efcient package.

It will attract younger, progressive-minded buyers who want an Enclave-like design and Buick luxury in a contemporary

package. Thats because with room or fve and up to 48.4 cu. t. o storage space with the rear seat olded, Encore oers

substantial cargo capacity along with the confdent, higher driving position, all-wheel-drive capability and contemporary

    styling o a crossover.

Additional eatures include 10 standard air bags and an ECOTEC 1.4L turbo our-cylinder/six-speed automatic powertrain,

along with standard and available technologies, such as Buicks voice-activated IntelliLink, which uses Bluetooth or USB to

connect the drivers smartphone to a high-resolution, ull-color, 7-inch LCD display radio.

And because its a Buick, QuietTuning is standard on the Encore, eaturing the brands frst use o Active Noise

Cancellation technology.Whats more, Encore doesnt have a true competitor, as there are currently no other vehicles with this level o content and

technology in the Luxury Small Crossover segment. (The closest competitors are the BMW X1 and Audi Q3, which arent yet

    available in the United States.)

Encore arrives in showrooms in early 2013 just dont expect it to stay there or long.

Buick Encore is a great-looking, smart choice or those who want luxury crossover amenities in a

more maneuverable and agile vehicle. It represents a luxury alternative or a new audience o Buick

customers, and delivers eatures and fexibility not typically ound in vehicles o its size today.

    QUIETTUNING TECHNOLOGY

Encore is engineered or solitude, thanks to QuietTuning, the process o defning Buick quality, sound and vibration

characteristics. With it, Buick engineers design and refne the vehicle ollowing a three-point strategy o reducing sounds at theirsource, blocking sounds rom entering the cabin and absorbing any remaining sounds.

For the Encore, specifc content was applied to achieve 40 sound benchmarks or refnement, including Buicks frst application o

Active Noise Cancellation. With it, ceiling-mounted microphones detect engine noise, the requencies o which are processed by

a computer that directs counteracting sound waves through the audio systems speakers.

    RIDE AND HANDLING

Encore is built on a global small-crossover platorm and

    engineeredwithaone-tirephilosophy.Thatmeansthateverythingisoptimizedaroundasingle,18-inch

tire specifcation, designed or more precise suspension

tuning, driving refnement, quietness and a eeling o

    control.

The vehicles 100.6-inch wheelbase and wide stance

60.6-inch ront and rear tracks contribute to a more

confdent-eeling driving experience, while a strong

structure enables greater suspension precision and a

quieter ride. A tuned engine, including two hydraulic

engine mounts, is tailored to the engines inherent torque

axis to disrupt the transmission o vibration and noise. Thisconfguration also helps control the transer o momentum, resulting in improved dynamic balance.

    AMacPhersonstrutfrontsuspensionisusedwithcoilsprings,alargestabilizerbarandside-load-compensatedfrontstrut

modules. The rear suspension incorporates a compound crank (torsion beam) design, with a double-wall, tubular V-shape beam

profle with gas-charged twin-tube shocks. It combines all the advantages o a conventional torsion beam axle, including minimal

space requirements, with low weight and consistent camber control. Urethane spring isolators are used to reduce noise.

The Encore also eatures a column-mounted, variable-eort electric power steering system. It contributes to a 36.7-oot turning

diameter, while also saving uel compared to an engine-driven power steering pump. Four-wheel disc brakes and StabiliTrak

Electronic Stability Control System are standard.

    FEATURE BENEFIT(S)

Variable eort electronic power steering Quiet, light eort or parking, and responsive at highway speeds

Increasedstabilizerbarsize Decreases vehicle roll during cornering

Urethane spring insulators in ront and rear Reduce noise into the driver and passenger compartments

Unique strut and shock valving Tuned specifcally or reducing noise and controlling ride

    One-tire chassis Createsavehiclethatisoptimizedforroad,handlingandride characteristics

Hydraulic bushings or control arms Provide good ride, damps suspension and absorbs roadeedback to reduce bouncing

Hydraulic engine mounts Absorb engine vibration so the vehicle occupants do not eel it

When it comes to occupant protection, the Encores body structure orms a protective cage around the passenger compartment.

Sixty-three percent o the underbody structure is comprised o high-strength steel, while fty-seven percent o the upper body uses

high-strength or ultra-high-strength steel. That protection is complemented with 10 standard air bags, which include:
