Thisbookiswrittenforthegeneralreader,whomayuseitasareferencesourcetotheimportantmonetaryexperiencesthathaveeither

Innovationsinmonetarysystemsinvariablyentailaredistributionofincome,andthereforethesubjectofmoneyisnotoneweexpecttoseehandledwithoutprejudice.Thisbook,however,strivestotreatthesubjectwithouttryingtoproveordisprovecurrenttheoriesinmonetary

Thisbookpresentsthesubjectofmoneyintheformofmorethan300topicsrangingfromwhaletoothmoney,furmoney,andtobaccomoneytothemechanismsofthemoderninternationalmonetarysystem.Individualtopicsareintendedtostandontheirownmerits,eachstrivingtopenetrateasarovingspotlight

Theprofessionallytrainedeconomistswillmissinthisbookmuchofthetechnicaljargonandsophisticatedmathematicalandstatisticalanalysisassociatedwiththescienceofmonetaryeconomics.Perhaps
theabsenceoftheoryandjargonwillberepaidintherevelationofthealmostendlessvarietyofmonetarysystemsandexperimentsthatdeserveourattention,andcanteachussomethingaboutthenatureofmoney.
ThecompositionofthisbookwasenrichedsubstantiallybyconversationswithDr.RonFritze,professorofhistoryatLamarUniversity,whosefar-flung
