ENERGIZER
Need a break during a lesson?
Then it’s time to
ENERGIZE!!
• There are times when a quick break can do the trick.
• Pull out an ENERGIZER and re-energize your students in just 60 seconds!
Creating an Energizer• You, the teacher, can create them.
• Pick a theme/location.
• Write 8-12 fun, descriptive, & action oriented sentences that someone would experience at the location you choose.
• Keep the actions simple and easy to do. The object is for the students to stretch and perform simple exercises to get their bodies re-energized.
• Have students perform at their desk or by walking around the classroom as you read the energizer.
• Set guidelines on how they are to perform the energizer. I.e.: no running, low voices, no physical contact with peers, etc.
• Your students can create them, too!
• This Is a great creative writing activity.
• Have students participate in a few Energizers prior to writing their own.
Louisiana Swamp Energizer• You are an egret walking slowly through the swamp. • Your legs gently brush up against the water hyacinth plants. • You look down into the water as you continue your walk.• You spot a fish and dunk your head to catch it. • The fish is in your beak. Now stretch your long neck so the fish
plops into your belly.• Yum, that fish tasted great. • Oh no, trouble lurks ahead. • You see the alligator waiting for you. • Spread your wings and fly away from danger.• Fly to the other side of the swamp.• You land on a log and flap your wings until they are dry.
Warm-up With the Saints Energizer• The big game is about to begin. It’s time to stretch. • Raise your arms to the sky so their ready to catch the ball. Hold that
stretch. • Now practice your throwing position. Reach your hand back with
the air ball and hold. Now throw the ball down field. • OK – you are now the receiver. Get your arms and hands ready for
the pass – it’s high up in the air. Catch the ball. Hold it. Hold it. Hold it.
• Now take 10 lunge type steps forward.• Walk into the end zone. Smile – you made a touchdown! Jump up
and down 5 times in one place. • Now drop the ball. Lean forward with one arm back and one arm
forward-both at 90 degree angles. Walk 10 steps forward and rotate
your arms. Walk back to the sidelines.• Stand up and stretch. Turn and wave at the crowd!
