Electricity is the most powerful resource forbuilding modern community and it plays avital role in eradicating poverty and boosting

economies. Yet , according to united nationsestimates, 1.5 billion people nearly a quarterof the worlds population live without accessto the reliable power.

Room AC Temperature has to be maintained at 24C instead of 19C,like Garib Rath Trains 260c is maintained.

Energy Clubs should be opened in the educational institutions /communities for making energy audit. Services to 5-6 surroundingvillages may be extended by the college Students on Energy Audit.

Temples, Churches, Masjid heads have to motivate the devotees onenergy conservation awareness like Kerala State.

Supply Indicating lamps should replace by LEDs indicators.

    Energy efficiency in buildings

For existing buildings, good insulation window glazingand recovering heat from ventilation system are efficientways to reduce co2emission.

Energy efficiency in building is compelling, cost effective& can help consumers to save money in the long run.

Energy efficiency in buildings helps to meet energy

    targets and resource energy shortage.

Solar panels can be attached to the roofs of thebuildings and many mini wind turbines can be attached

to walls to generate electricity from natural resources.

Most of the energy usage in buildings goes to air-conditioning,cooling accounts to 60% of energy used in commercial buildings, so

efficient air-conditioners and good house keeping are required.

Use of energy star rating a/c can have a +ve impact on overallpower consumption.

Roof insulation can reduce 2-5% of the overall cooling load.

Lighting system control and smart meters are being promoted asgood practice to reduce energy use in buildings.

Today it is possible to apply green material and advancedtechnology in the building design projects to consume less energy.

A green building revolution is needed in exploring

alternative approach through improving energy efficiencyto meet the challenges of global climate change andenergy security along with exploring renewable energyresources.

Progress has been made to build zero net energy. Newbuildings with advanced green technologies across theworld

    Save Electricity

Wash clothes in cold water when ever possible. As muchas 85% of energy used to machine wash clothes goes toheating the water.

Use of drying rack or clothes line to save energy in thedrying machine.

Keep your cellphones, pcs and other electronics as longas possible.

Donate or recycle electronic items responsibly when thetime comes as e-waste contains mercury and othertoxics and is a growing environmental problem.

Use smart power strip that senses when appliances areoff, and cuts phantom or vampire energy use.

Unplug your appliances when not in use.

    Save Energy

Turn off unused or unneeded lights and fans.

Use natural lighting and air instead of electriclighting and fans when ever possible.

If you have a desk lamp, make sure it is CFL. Keep windows and doors closed in heated and

    air conditioned areas.

    Turn off pc

s when not necessary or use energysaving mode.

When purchasing electrical equipment orperipherals buy low wattage and high lumenequipment and check the energy star rating.

Try to use 5-star rating equipment.
