Energy Efficient Commercial Complex In Kathmandu, Nepal Sabin Chakradhar Arc -552 | Thesis | Master in Architecture | 2015 Slide 2 Introduction Commercial Complex Slide 3 Site Analysis Slide 4 Site Analysis Slide 5 Ground Floor Plan Retail + Departmental Store North Slide 6 First Floor Plans Retail + Departmental Store North Slide 7 Second and Third Floor Plans Retail + Bank North Slide 8 Fourth and FifthFloor Plans Retail + Restaurants + Cinema North Slide 9 Sixth Floor Plans Rentable Office North Slide 10 Sectio n Section at A-A and B-B Section at A-ASection at B-B Slide 11 Simulatio n Analysis of the effect of Orientation on heating of building by solar radiation Longer Side Orienting East-West Longer Side Orienting North-South Slide 12 Simulatio n Analysis of the effect of Orientation on heating of building by solar radiation Slide 13 Simulatio n Effect of Thermal energy in different mass of building Slide 14 Simulatio n Effect of Thermal energy in different mass of building Slide 15 Simulatio n Positioning of the office block Slide 16 Simulatio n Positioning of the office block MW H Slide 17 Solar Photo Voltaics Slide 18 Solar Sun Chart Shading Calculation 1)Line up the device with true south ( Rotate to 13 West of magnetic South) 2)Locate points from east to west 3)Measure altitude angle and azimuth angle for each points. 4)Plot the value on the sun chart Sun chart for any particular location can be calculated and printed out University of Oregons website: http://solardat.uoregon.edu/SunChartProgram.htm l Slide 19 Solar Passive Solar Design USE OF SUN SPACE: In Winter, the opening of external skin is shut and both of the internal windows are opened. When sun heat the sunspace, the hot air rise and flow into the interior through the opening at top pulling the cold air from the opening at the bottom. In Summer, the opening of the external skin and bottom opening of internal skin is opened. The hot air in sun space rise and escape from the opening which pulls the cool air from other side of room Slide 20 Solar Shading Shading Technique Slide 21 Wind & Geothermal Aerodynamic principle Aerodynamic shape of the wings Aeroplane creates the pressure difference due to varying speed in upper and lower part of the wings which makes it possible for aeroplane to lift in the air. Using same principle along with the prevailing wind, if we put the wing in the stationary position, the pressure difference might be utilized for the air flow inside the building. If the curent of the wind is strong enough it might be even possible to use it in combination with Earth air Tunnenling system to minimize the energy of the fan.
