energy out of the window
TRANSCRIPT
Do you know how much of your heating cost is wasted every year?
Various statistics show that between 10% and 25% of your energy bills are lost because your windows are poorly glazed.
So, imagine if an average Australian family spend $ 1000 annually, that's up to $ 250 lost out of the window...quite literally.
What Can be Done to Prevent This?
Winter Efficiency Tips● Double glaze your windows if you haven't done so already.
This will not only save energy, but it will also minimise noise.
● Alternatively, the windows might just need some repairs.
● Keep windows clean (especially those on the south side of your house, as suggested by window cleaning experts in Sydney) clean to maximise solar gain.
● Close the curtains and shades at night and leave them open throughout the day.
Summer Efficiency Tips
● Install white window shades or blinds to reflect heat away from the house.
● Keep the curtains closed on the south- and west-facing windows during the day.
● Install awnings on the south- and west-facing windows.
● Apply reflective films on the south-facing windows.
Types of Window Treatments
Shutters➔ They can reduce heat gain and loss and are extremely
effective during the summer.
Wood Blinds➔ These come in two variations - vertical or horizontal slat-type.
Work better at isolating summer heat gain, than winter heat loss.
Cell Shades➔ The "cells" are all visible side pockets on a honeycomb shade.
The more shades there are, the more efficient the shade is.
