Iskra Sistemi in Energy Sector

MISSIoN Iskra Sistemi mission is meeting the market and customer needs through the product development, supply of services and consultancy as well as innovative system solutions which ensure efficient, en-vironment and user friendly economic management, and supervision in the energy field.

CoNtrol froM thE SourCE to thE CoNSuMptIoNThe supply of electrical energy occupies an important position in today’s modern world. A successful power system operation requires the use of high-quality secondary equipment, which enables the protection, monitoring and control of individual devices as well as the complete system. Control sys-tems – the result of our own know-how – provide our business partners with full control over power systems and enable optimum utilization of energy with minimum losses. For holistic control, from energy supply to its consumption we offer wide variety of solutions: from substation control systems like intelligent remote terminal stations (RTU) to control centres and power system protection.

Generation of Electricity

SCADA performs two essential tasks; it telemeters data back from remote sites and facilitates remote control from the System Control Centre. Alarm processing processes the data collected and alerts the engineer immediately if an alarm condition is detected. Using electricity meters, measuring transduc-ers and measuring centres, we measure the electric quantity of electricity generation, and using net-work analysers, we measure the quality after it is generated.

Energy Consumption

Besides operating energy, most electric devices such as asynchronous motors, three-phase current commutator motors, transformers, reactors, melting furnaces, welders, fluorescent lamps and others also require reactive energy, which results in additional load of the transfer line and other elements of connections. At the same time, the reactive energy represents additional cost to the consumer for the supplied energy. This is why we compensate for it with a device composed of a power factor controller, a contactor and capacitor banks. Using meters, measuring centres and network analysers, we meas-ure the electric values at energy generation points as well as at the point of consumption. If required, we convert it with measuring transducers into other physical values. The measured electric values are then collected and shown in real time using the SCADA system.

Effective Use Starts by Measuring

Uncontrolled consumption of energy products increases costs and contributes to environmental pol-lution. Efficiency of consumption can only be achieved by accurately measuring the consumption. We can quickly and without fault transfer the measured values to the server where you can analyse,

monitor and predict them in detail using our software. A group of one- and three-phase energy me-ters measures the consumption of electricity. The consumption of other energy products is measured using data loggers with a modem for remote communication. These data loggers are also appropriate for use in explosion hazard environments.

Reliable Transfer of Data

The measured physical values are transferred via our communicators and concentrators to a server. The communicators support all of the most widely used methods of communication and data transfer such as Ethernet, LPR, GPRS/UMTS, XiFi, GPRS, SMS, serial communication, USB and others.

Control, Analysis and Taking Action

The transferred measurements on the server are then collected using the MiSMART software, which is intended for collecting and saving data regarding the consumption of energy products in the indus-try, business buildings, residential properties, energy generation, etc. The e-MIS software for monitor-ing and forecasting the consumption of various energy products helps energy managers keep energy books and forecast future consumption.

Sources, consequences and condition improvement

Most electrical devices like asynchronous motors, collective motors of rotation current, transformers, chokes, induction heating stoves, welding devices, fluorescent lamps and many others need not only working power but also reactive power for their own activity. That results not only in additional costs for energy supply but also in additional loads on transmis-sible lines and other contact elements. Such conditions can be improved with compensation of reactive power by fitting a suitable capacitor between the inductive consumer and the generator.

MIDDlE-VoltagE tWo-StEp autoMatIC fIltErCoMpENSatIoN 35 kV, 12 MVarproblem presentation

FENI Industries AD is the largest Macedonian ferronickel producer. It operates a mine, opencast mine and smelting plant for ferronickel in Kavadarci, northern Macedonia. The company has two melting furnaces, each of them is supplied separately by a 110/35 kV, 100 MVA dry transformer. Cos φ of the complete FENI system was between 0.90 and 0.92, without compensation at 35 kV. Such system caused additional, unnecessary costs for electric energy to the company. Monthly costs for reactive energy thus amounted to 16,000 EUR. The company therefore decided to collect offers for a complete solution of middle-voltage compensation on a turn-key basis.

Dry transformer 110/35 kV, 100 MVa

project implementation

The project of a middle-voltage automatic filter compensation device on a turn-key basis consisted of several phases. First we entered into discussions and visited the FENI Industries AD company, then we made a record of the situation and carried out measurements. On this basis, we made an offer, and started the project implementation immediately after being chosen for the job. We chose appropriate suppliers of some components and made a controller on middle-voltage cells. Final acceptance and start-up of the facility was performed in June 2009. The project documentation was submitted in September 2009. After switching on the compensation, cos φ for the complete factory is 0.96, which completely achieves the purpose for such system. Our middle-voltage compensation solution helps FENI Industries AD to save 16,000 EUR monthly.

Substation automation and protection

NEO 3000 Control Center system is specifically designed for supervision, control and analysis of power transmission and distribution networks. It is a sophisticated turnkey solution, which is highly adoptable to customer needs - from visualization and operator interaction to hardware configuration. This high level of customization is based on scalable design which enables various configurations of clients, servers, communication interfaces and peripheral equipment (monitors, printers, LAN equipment …). With its support for integration with products from other manufacturers control center functionality can be expanded by adding third party applications which use the information, collected from the field.Besides the typical power utility control hierarchy, control can be distributed between hierarchically equal control centers, so that each control center can take over the area of another control center. This functionality can provide savings in operating staff as well as an additional security feature in case of control center failure.
