Southfield Public Schools has made a sincere effort to prepare its high school students for
college; however, I believe that the unique makeup of the College Bound program has the
potential to make it even better!
I am a sophomore at the University of Michigan, fairing well with my academics, using the tools I learned at Southfield-Lathrup, but I am one of the lucky ones. Junior year is too
late to start the college prep process. If the counselors at Southfield-Lathrup had met with all of their students to establish a plan for their futures academically, my preparation for the University of Michigan would have been so much better.
I am currently enrolled in Spanish 101, an entry level course for Spanish, at the Universityof Michigan. But, as I look back at my high school career, if I had taken Spanish all four years instead of the minimum two years, I would have placed out or been able to perform in a more advanced course.
Being at the entry level has pushed me back a year and has cost me money that I could have used for a Required class. With this in mind, a program that helps to develop a moreeffective four year plan that will prepare students for colleges like the University of Michigan or anywhere they choose IS THE RIGHT CHOICE.

A student without a plan is like a plan for low income.
By the time you comfortably retire, you’ll look back and see that your earnings increase, as figured by your level of education, has compounded over your lifetime.
A person with a Bachelor's degree will earn, on average, almost twice as much as workers with a high school diploma over a lifetime ($2.1 million compared to $1.2 million). This is a result of not only higher starting salaries for people with higher education levels, but also the sharper earnings growth over the course their careers.
