The unit seeks to improve the performance of the Quality Assurance Unit and participate strongly in enhancing the academic and research performance of the Faculty of Engineering to be a distinct educational and research edifice in the MENA region by applying the quality systems of higher education institutions in the fields of education, research and community service.

NATIONAL AUTHORITY FOR QUALITY ASSURANCE AND ACCREDITATION OF EDUCATION

A dedicated building for the windtunnel has been established, inaddition to a new lab dedicated forphotovoltaics fabrication andtesting. Within the Newton-Mosharafa Institutional Linksframework, the Centre forEmerging Learning Technologies(CELT), the British University inEgypt (BUE) in collaboration withthe Centre for Renewable EnergySystems Technology (CREST),Loughborough University UK, haveacquired a mutually funded grantfor this research project. Theproject has been started inJanuary 2017, for a duration of 24months, however due to somedelayed issues, the project hasbeen extended one year, where ithas been finalized in January 2020.The project aims at; a)development of remotelyaccessible testing facilities in the

field of wind energy andphotovoltaics,b) development of a wind tunnelwith associated testing equipment,c) development of a standard solarsimulator, d) improvement of solarcells conversion efficiency at hightemperature conditions, and e)improvement of wind turbineperformance at low wind speedenvironment.The event was on Sunday 15th ofDecember 2019 in the librarycultural room and there werespeeches from Mrs. Nesma Hosny;Science Program Manager in theBritish Council. And Prof. EmadHegazi; Executive Director-STDF.

APPLICATION OF ENGINEERING FUNDAMENTALS IN AUTOMOTIVE THERMAL MANAGEMENT

Dr. Alaa El Sharkawy is aManager and Walter P.Chrysler Technical Fellow.Working in Vehicle Concept& Integration (ThermalSystems) in Chrysler GroupLLC, MI, USA.

He delivered a session herein the university and thetopic covers areas of interestto mechanical and chemicalengineering students andfaculty members.

4 monthly meetings wereconducted on 29th Sept. 2019,24th Oct. 2019, 27th Nov. 2019and 15th Dec. 2019. The mostimportant outcomes for thosemeetings are:

• A monthly meeting for QAUmembers will be held on 2nd or3rd Wednesday of each monthat 2.00pm in the QAU-A-232.

• Announcement of the QualityAssurance Unit Board (QAUB).

• Announcement of thecomposition of NAQAAEcriteria coordinators and theirassistants.

• Announcement of thecomposition of DepartmentalNAQAAE Coordinators.

• Updating & Forming ExecutiveCommittees of QAU.

• Finalizing the Action Plan (AP),Self-Study Report (SSR) andthe Summary of Self-StudyReport (SSSR) for theacademic year 2018/2019.

• Approval of the Internal Bylawof QAU by QAU members and itwas approved in the 2ndfaculty council meeting.

• Approval of suggestedtemplate of “Individual

Contributions and PerformanceEvaluation of the E-QAUmembers”, 2019/2010.

INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION (IPA) COMMITTEE’S MEETINGS

The team met with Dr. Nabil ElTayeb to generate a matrix thatincludes all the required data and theduration of each accreditation to begranted. The final matrix that includesall departments has been reviewedand the time frames have beenapproved by Dr. Maguid and theteam is working now on thedocuments and requirements.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT•The 4th staff development day was held on Wednesday 11th Sept. 2019. The offered sessions were about Understanding and working with higher order thinking skills, Reflective Teaching: Definitions and Strategies, Text Appeal: Choosing the right material to promote the reading habit, How to use videos effectively in higher education?, Multiple Intelligences - Using MI to make lectures and tutorials more interactive and interesting, Managing the challenges in teaching students from different educational backgrounds, Incorporating active learning approaches in teaching physics & mathematics, Towards writing professional exam prompts, Emotional Intelligence at Work, Boosting clarity in Exam Questions, The Millennials: Why this new

generation of students presents teaching challenges. The sessions were well organized and all the objectives of the Staff Development Day. • A session on Innovative

feedback strategies wasconducted on 24th Nov. 2019presented by Dr. Ayman Othmanand Dr. George Fam in A-322from 2:00 – 3:00 pm

• A session on faculty level wasconducted on 22nd Dec. 2019 onPlagiarism and Turnitin and itwas conducted by Dr. MahaMunieb in Lecture Hall 8Building G. Moreover.

• A session was conducted by Dr.Hani Ghali and Dr. Nabil ElTayeb to provide us a preciseand detailed presentation onhow to write the objectives toensure clear path for all facultymembers.

• Another session was conducted to theAdmins by Dr. Pauline Ghenghesh on theRoles and Responsibilities of the PersonalDevelopment Advisors for Administratorson Monday 16th Dec. 2019.

• “Teaching Enhancement” course hat hasbeen certified by the CPD in the UK andtherefore the TAs received a certificate ofattendance from the CPD uponcompletion, it was delivered by Dr. ManalShalaby (External Trainer) on Wednesday,30th of October in the Library. In additionto other courses that Dr. Pauline hasinitiated and delivered throughout the

semester.
