Southeast sculpture professor, Chris Wubbena, presents a multimedia installation including small bronze and stainless steel sculptures, videos and audio works detailing the experience he and his father (a Vietnam/American War veteran) had on their return to Vietnam.

We want you to find fun things to do on campus, whether it’s attending a theatre pro duc tion, playing intramurals, going to worship, or joining an organization. “Engage in 8!” is here to help! In the following pages, you’ll find eight weeks of events and activities. Try new experiences this year, make new friends, and become more engaged in your University home. We look forward to seeing you enjoy campus and all the opportunities it has to offer!

Come prepared with a 60-second monologue and a 16-bar cut of a song of your choice. “Once On This Island” is a one-act musical with book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty. “Blood Wedding” is a tragedy by the Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca. Also, the second stage show “In the Boom Boom Room” will hold its auditions along with the two main stage. This play by David Rabe is about the unfortunate life of a go-go dancer named Chrissy. A 60-second prepared mono logue is required for this audition as well.

This is the year’s first staged reading series. Come with a 60-second monologue prepared. A staged reading is a full-length show in which the actors read from scripts while doing full acting and blocking. Shows are put on in a period of six rehearsals. “Endgame” is an absurdist play by Samuel Beckett involving four actors, the protagonist being a blind man named Hamm who is unable to stand up.

The auditions were held, the six rehearsals are done, and now it’s time to come see the show. “Endgame” is an absurdist show by Samuel Beckett and is full of meaning and symbolism. The four actors include Hamm, the protagonist who is blind and cannot stand up, his servant Clov who cannot sit down, and Hamm’s legless parents, Nagg and Nell, who live in trashcans. Come and enjoy this free staged reading and see the craziness for yourself.

October 12Marc Elliot “What Makes You Tic?”

presentation, 7 p.m., Academic Hall Auditorium Marc Elliot recently graduated from Washington

University in St. Louis. His college experience resembled that of many others: he participated actively in his fraternity, played intramural sports, studied abroad and completed the pre-med requirements. None of those things was particularly extraordinary except that he did them with Tourettes syndrome and only four feet of intestines. In dealing with his personal challenges, Marc gained uncommon insight into the power of persever-ance, as well as the importance of understanding other people’s differences. In addition, he learned the value of humor and its necessity in our daily lives. These insights have given him an incredible opportunity to inspire and teach his peers and adults alike.
