WAYS TO GET ENGAGED

STRATEGY >

Expand Relationships with Current Donors

Learning, Understanding, Growing

THE FOUNDATION ENGAGES ITS DONORS in meaningful and strategic philanthropy.

Our donor education series features current trends and prominent speakers.

Volunteer committee participation provides donors with a deeper understanding about philanthropy and The Foundation’s impact.

The Foundation arranges site visits to organizations where donors see first-hand the programs they fund.

Including youth in multi-generational conversations promotes their commitment to giving.

“ For us, the Jewish Community Foundation is the full package: a service, an education and a community.”

“ It doesn’t matter what income level or stage of life you are in, the Foundation just makes it so easy to give back.”

YOUTH PHILANTHROPY

The Foundation launched the Jewish Teen Foundation as part of an

international initiative with the Jewish Teen Funders Network Foundation Board

Incubator, funded by Laura Lauder and the Maimonides Fund. San Diego Jewish high

school teens learn about nonprofits and charitable giving, and making an impact in their community during this academic year-

long program.

Engaging Younger Generations

6

STRATEGY > Encourage Philanthropy among Younger Generations

The Peter Chortek Leadership Award honors three extraordinary teens’ community service and leadership each year. Peter z”l and Elaine Chortek created the award to foster Jewish communal involvement and encourage practicing tikkun olam, repairing the world.

ENDOWMENT LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (ELI)

ELI BRINGS TOGETHER Jewish organizations, synagogues and day schools with the common

goal of establishing endowments for the long-term vitality of the San Diego Jewish community. It has built a community culture of legacy giving in San Diego. To date, over 1,100 families have established legacies with hundreds of millions of dollars in planned gifts.

7

STRATEGY > Expand Partnerships with Jewish Organizations

Providing Jewish Organizationswith Legacy Planning Resources

“Because of ELI, our synagogue now has a good start with an endowment. We have $2 million at the Jewish Community Foundation and many more planned gifts from our congregants.”

“ ELI opened up a whole new world of possibilities. It’s an extraordinary program. A collective power comes from being with other organizations. ELI makes a huge difference in our community.“ Look for us in the San Diego Jewish Journal

and other publications.

Donors may sign the Book of Life upon promising a legacy gift of any size to the Jewish community.

including membership in the San Diego Chapter of Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy

and partnership with the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

www.epip.org | www.afpnet.org

Foundation staff serve on the board and committees of San Diego Grantmakers, a convener and resource for organized philanthropy. We also lead professional development sessions, engage in funder collaboratives and take an active role in the annual conference.

www.sdgrantmakers.org

Through membership in the international Jewish Funders Network, the Foundation works to maximize the quality and impact of Jewish philanthropy.

The Tuttleman Family Philanthropy Room is a

state-of-the-art meeting venue. The space offers resources and an ideal environment

for donors to engage in confidential discussions about their charitable giving, legacy

and estate planning and family philanthropy.

The Foundation established the Littman Legacy Room, a meeting

space in honor of Gail Littman, of blessed memory. In addition to providing an intimate venue

for discussing charitable giving, the room houses resources on

legacy planning for donors and nonprofits.

ESTABLISHED IN 1967, the Jewish Community Foundation is the oldest community foundation in San Diego.

Our mission is to promote philanthropy through meaningful partnerships with donors and community organizations in achieving charitable goals; to increase current and future support for a vibrant and secure Jewish and general community in San Diego, Israel and around the world.
