Meet Bonnie

She’s in charge of everything fun on their campus, except for athletics. In 2019 they adopted Minga to engage students on their mobile phone and create a go to place for students to receive timely messages and updates, as well as a place for student clubs, leadership groups and orientations to be organized.

In the summer of 2020, she presented at the CADA conference on how to go virtual with your student clubs and organizations and featured Minga as the go-to place for student activities.

Because dances, assemblies, and in-person clubs will not be happening this coming year, SMHS is taking an innovative approach to moving as many activities as possible online.

Managing Virtual Student Groups With MingaBonnie knows her students must be engaged in small groups and can’t rely solely on one-to-many lecture style formats over webinars. “Students need to be engaged in small groups of peers and adults,” she stated.

“And since students don’t check their email often and have trouble finding information on our website, we use Minga’s groups feature to engage over 80 different student organizations and their leaders online.”

Managing Virtual Student Groups With MingaAs a central hub, Minga provides students and their clubs with a calendar for their invites, links to documents, and even the ability to create new students.

With their private school community, there’s no need for privacy concerns like traditional social media channels. Teachers also now had a place to post content, files, and engage their students without having to create all of their own Instagram accounts which isn’t a great way to store go-to resources and long-form content.

As SMHS gets ready to go back to school they are taking extra steps to make sure students receive the right information about orientation, especially for the incoming class of 2024.

“It’s going to be really important to have students in small groups and having conversations that aren’t going to be available in-person for the 2020 school year. Since we’re making this huge sweeping change at the beginning of the school year, students are wanting to say something, but they don’t always have a place to feel heard and understood.”
