Why Use Foldables?

The foldables in the CD you will receive are directly correlated with the VDOE Curriculum Framework.

See the reverse of this handout for a complete list. There is one foldable for each SOL Curriculum Framework objective. There are 45 in all!

Why Use Foldables?

They include not only the essential knowledge, but also include essential skills, such as sequencing, and using maps.

Many of these foldables contain text or image based primary sources from the Library of Congress.

Where did we get these ideas?

The foldables we have created were modeled from the inspiration and designs of Dinah Zike. We recommend that you refer to one of her books for added clarity on how to

make the various folds after this workshop.

What About Differentiation? Use these templates as your teacher

models.

Decide how much of the template you will share with students.

Some students may need the text, others will benefit more by writing the text on their own. Some students may need the illustrations, others may benefit by drawing their own illustrations.
