12. Model Construction
Plan ahead, sketch, select scale, compare sizes Solid base of wood…always test for bending • Consult the engineer… • Look for scrap materials, or purchase new Best to use recycled materials, such as: • Old toys; Model cars, trains, airplanes, boats • Clean kitchen utensils • Clean and empty food containers (cans, etc) • Holiday decorations • Mirrors (careful) for water effect Keep close tab of expenses, file report, $100 max

– Tie Breaker to be decided by Regional Director – Weight & size limitations on model are enforced. – Schools with more than one COMPETITIVE team,
may have up to 3 submittals of Virtual City, BUT only one team will be allowed to compete at the Region and advance to the Regional Finals
17. SPECIAL AWARDS – Regional Competition’s Special Awards are
determined by the Engineering Organizations – Tentative Special Awards (to prepare for):
• Best Futuristic Transportation System • Best Future Energy Generation System • Best Management of Natural Resources • Best Use of Cultural and Historical Resources • Best City Design with Community in Mind • Best display of Engineering Ethics by a Team • Best Sustainable Design of a City • Best Application of Survey Practices
