ENGINSOFT and the potential for an enhanced collaboration with CERN

Company profile

A Key Partner In Design Process Innovation EnginSoft is an Italy-based multinational consulting company active in the field of Simulation-Based Engineering and Sciences. Founded in 1984, over the years EnginSoft has become the partner of choice to support companies in design process innovation, thanks to the extensive skills of our highly qualified staff. We provide a wide range of services including effective, high-quality consulting, advanced training, development of ad hoc custom software, and research. In Italy, EnginSoft employs about 120 engineers with multidisciplinary skills in a variety of contexts and technologies: large-scale, industrial, transportation, metallurgy and in all contexts in which simulation is a strategic asset for innovation and business competitiveness. We make extensive use of software solutions that match or exceed prevailing industry standards (ANSYS, MAGMA, Flowmaster, modeFRONTIER and others), and invest heavily in the use of infrastructure-based High Performance Computing (HPC) and Cloud Computing platforms. Based on such tools and over twenty years of systematically building our knowledge and expertise, EnginSoft is able to customize the best solutions for each problem in product or process development for companies from a wide range of manufacturing sectors. These include automotive, aerospace, rail and seaborne transport, communications (electronic and electromagnetism) and energy (oil, gas and plant design). In particular, EnginSoft has extensive experience in the disciplines of mechanical and structural engineering, fluid dynamics, high- and low-frequency electromagnetism, and proven skills in the analysis of multi-physics phenomena. The company is headquartered in Trento. The Italian skill centers are based in Bergamo, Florence, Padua, Turin and Mesagne. It is also present across Europe and in the United States of America: The main offices are located in France, Germany, UK, Sweden and the United States, in California and Texas.

ENGINSOFT for scientific research and technology transfer in nuclear/energy sector In Energy context, CAE Technology and Intelligent Digital Prototyping (iDP) hold, and will increasingly hold, an absolutely determining role in whether the project ideas can be tested, optimized and validated before prototypes are built. In particular, the value proposition consists of five areas: (I) CAE tools, (II) Engineering consulting, (III) Training, (IV) HPC system and (V) co-founded Research projects.

(III) For EnginSoft, training and cultural dissemination represent a commitment and a constant interest, embodied in many different initiatives and organized in collaboration with dedicated facilities and partnerships.

EnginSoft has a broad offering of educational and training services which can be summarized here: - self-paced online courses which are mainly offered through the TCN consortium and

Improve.it portals - basic and in-depth classroom courses on the use of specific simulation software packages

and their features - customized courses created on demand for your specific organization’s needs - The PSE Competency Tracker : a Competency Management system for the CAE industry

(IV) The HPC system

Enginsoft offers various services in the HPC community as well as is an active partner in EU h2020 hpc project as well as national tenders spread all over Europe. There are various scenarios where our proposition can fit: - Scientific HPC clusters for SMI, where Enginsoft helps partners defining

architecture, strategies, requirements and security for industries that needs to buy or setup in-house HPC facilities for their R&D departments and or design departments.

- Massive parallel programming: Enginsoft experience in CFD consulting has driven a dedicated group off engineers that can help people in optimizing parallel codes for CPU and GPU (both Opencl and Cuda frameworks) also in expanding their codes for coupled domains and physics(I.e. Pressure heat and mass transfer).

- Low power architectures: Enginsoft is active in many EU projects regarding network and processors for exascale technology in partnership with most important players in Europe, being the very first company that successfully run CFD cpu&gpu coupled code on arm architecture (https://www.apm.com/news/e4-computer-engineering-and-appliedmicro-demonstrate-the-effectiveness-of-p/)

- Dedicated services for HPC job management and remote visualization: Enginsoft delivers proprietary solutions for managing HPC jobs on clusters and to manage remote visualization servers in order to not move data along the network. these solutions are installed all over Europe at Enginsoft customer sites and provide better user experience for users and increase security management.

- Cluster management: a dedicated team is specialized in managing and helping customers controlling and optimize their in-house or cloud HPC infrastructures with both day by day users problem solving capability and specific onsite dedicated people for special projects, and installation knowhow and turnkey solutions

- Own resources: Enginsoft maintains, for in house and consulting services, HPC own facility (about 150 nodes) and is partner with E4 in Italy (which is one of the main hardware suppliers at Cern) in order to test and choose hardware solutions optimized and affordable for its own activities and customer activities

(I) Research and Development: EnginSoft also supports its customers in choosing the appropriate financial instruments to achieve their development plans, and in the writing and submission of grant applications. The complementarity between technology consulting and financial advisory services makes for a truly innovative capability. EnginSoft is able to provide fast and timely disclosure on grants and low-interest loans available to innovate products and production processes. It is an integrated service, from the identification of requirements to implementation. EnginSoft supports companies in the preparation of funding applications, selects and trains staff for research, and finds partners for international projects. Since 1994, EnginSoft has been

recognized by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) as a technology transfer laboratory in the field of CAE/iDP.

The management of the projects are based on EUCOORD is a web-based solution for the Project Management and Financial Accounting Research Project of the 7th Framework Programme, now EUCOORD2020 for Horizon 2020, its development based on many years of EnginSoft experience in the management and coordination of European projects. The platform provides a single solution for all the tools necessary to manage research projects, from accounting to the automatic generation of reports, from data collection to the communication between the coordinator and the partners. EUCOORD allows the project team, each with their own personalized and protected access, to work and interact 24 hours a day from any computer. The license to use EUCOORD can be included in the eligible project management costs and is 100% funded.
