• England used to be connected to Ireland and Europe/Asia about 10,000 years ago

• Around 2500 BC, the Beaker culture introduced drinking and food vessels constructed from clay

• During this Neolithic period, Stonehenge was built

• The name "England" is derived from the Old English name “Angla land,” which means "land of the Angles.”

Stonehenge  • Stonehenge is a man-made circular structure of different sized stones built in 

the Neolithic and Bronze Age around 2500 BC. • IT is a heritage site as well as a tourist destination, widely popularized by the 

mystery of its builders and purpose.• The name Stonehenge is derived from the Old English words; stān means stone 

and hencg meaning hinge or hen(c)en, which means hang or gallows. • No one knows who built Stonehenge, but it is a  single structure made of 

several stones, earth and timber structure, and was constructed in phases over a period of more than 1500 years. 

• Some believe that it was a temple or calendar. • Two types of stones were used for the construction; blue stones weighing 

nearly four tons and sarsen stone weighing twenty-five tons and measuring 18 feet high- the 'bluestones' which weighed almost four tons and were brought from 240 miles away.

Britain’s Royal Monarchy• The Queen is Head of State of

• Prince of Wales is a title traditionally granted to the heir apparent to the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom of  Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the 15 other independent commonwealth . The current Prince of Wales is Prince Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II.

• Princess Diana was born on July 1, 1961 and died on August 31, 1997.  She was the first wife of Charles, the Prince of Wales.  They had two sons, William and Harry, who were the second and the third in line for the thrones of the United Kingdom as well as fifteen Commonwealth Realms.
