2019-2020 Issue No. 17 THE VISION Kowloon Tong School (Primary Section) Captain English Did you notice that some of our students wear a special ‘Captain English’ badge? Do you know what their duties are? Actually, these students can be very helpful if you want to improve your English! This year, our Primary One to Three students have had a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate their English skills and inspire others. These responsible and very enthusiastic students help to make sure that everyone can experience an English-speaking environment every day. Thanks to every Captain English, students’ interest in the English language has been increasing daily. Each Captain English does their best to spread the English-speaking atmosphere in and outside the classroom. They also set very good examples for their peers and motivate them to improve their English on a daily basis. Moreover, each Captain English is an irreplaceable helper for English teachers. English Captain English taking their oath. “I’m very happy to help our English teacher every day. For example, I collect the books and distribute them in class. I also help my classmates correct their mistakes in speaking or writing in English.” - Adela Wu (2D) Oral Lessons Theme-based Approach This year has seen an update to the Oral curriculum to better reflect the school’s belief in the increasing importance of international mindedness in today’s world. This new design also allows for a more dynamic theme-based approach. It is hoped that the students will have gained a better appreciation of the world around them and that they are developing a sense of being a global citizen. Students practising Oral presentations in groups. “I’m very happy to be Captain English. I’m a very helpful and cheerful person. Every morning, I help my teacher collect the books. I also like to help my classmates and encourage them to speak in English.” - Jeannie Yung (1E)
