For 2014 and 2015, where the English language and English literature GCSE/iGCSE option is chosen exams in both must be taken (although not necessarily provided by the same exam board) and a C grade or above achieved in English language and an A*-G grade or U awarded in English literature. In 2016 English literature can also count in English specific measures if a pupil obtains a grade A*-C in English literature and a grade A*-G or U grade in English language. A list of approved English literature qualifications are on the English literature tab.

This qualification will count in the performance measures for the first time in 2014. It is subject to the rule that only two non-GCSEs can count in the 2014 performance tables. In 2015, schools will be able to opt-in to the new Progress 8 accountability system one year early. To ensure that all eligible qualifications are counted in headline measures AQA and WJEC Level 1/2 Certificates will be removed from the Wolf list of non-GCSE qualifications and remain only on the EBacc list they will therefore not be subject to the capping of non-GCSEs rule. This is the case across all performance measures for all schools in both 2015 and 2016 performance tables.

To count as science in the Baccalaureate, if core science is taken then additional science must also be taken and grades A*-C achieved in both.

If the single sciences option is chosen, to count as science in the Baccalaureate, three out of four single sciences must be taken in physics, chemistry, biology and computer science from the list above, and grades A*-C achieved in two of them. Only the OCR Level 1/Level 2 GCSE in Computing and the AQA Level 1/2 GCSE in Computer Science are eligible as computer science in 2014. From 2015 WJEC Level 1/Level 2 GCSE in Computer Science and Pearson Edexcel Level 1/Level 2 GCSE in Computer Science will also count as computer science in the Science Baccalaureate.

The science double award will count as science in the Baccalaureate if A*A*-CC grades are achieved. The science double award GCSE will count as one in all other performance tables indicators in 2014.
