Hardware and Software Digital Systems are made up of hardware and software. The hardware are the physical parts of a system that you can see and touch. Software are a set of instructions or a program that tells a digital system what to do. Which of these are hardware or software? Game, mobile phone, chat application, cursor, printer, word processing, game controller, mouse

Remember hardware and software work together. Can you work out which of the ones listed above belong together?

What other examples of hardware and software can you come you think of?

If you were to create an app what would it do?

Daily Writing: Complete the task below by writing your completed argument in your

exercise book.

Your Task today:

1. Combine all of the parts you have written this week to produce one completely

structured argument.

2. Edit and proofread your persuasive text that you have now created

- Look for punctuation and spelling errors. Use a dictionary to check some of those

difficult words.

- Read each sentence aloud to make sure they sound correct.

- Add in strong language to persuade the reader.

3. Make sure you have; a title, introduction, arguments and a conclusion in separate

paragraphs (See the structure template below)

4. Read your completed text to a family member.

5. Send a photo of your persuasive text to your teacher.

EXAMPLE:

Is It Safe to Ride a Bike to School? Riding your bike is a great way to stay fit and healthy. However, many people think it

is too dangerous to ride your bike to school unsupervised because of the traffic.

Many people believe if you ride to school, that it should be with an adult.

What do you think? Do you agree or disagree?

Perhaps you can think of ideas for both side of this argument.

Maths Warm-Up: MASH UP MATHS EXAMPLE

Maths Warm-Up:

Complete this in your exercise books/on your whiteboards.

Maths Lesson:

Investigating Distances

When we use maps, we often need to provide directions to find our way from one position

to another. Directions can be presented by using words such as ‘start at the shopping

centre’.

Directions can also include diagrams and symbols. For example: an arrow could indicate the

direction that we want to travel. → this arrow would probably communicate that direction

is towards the right.

Look at the images below and think about how they could be used to give directions.

These directions could be interpreted as:

• Go 3 km in an easterly direction.

• Stop

• Go 5 km in a northerly direction.

1. Use the scale to estimate the length of the following streets on this map.

a. Boundary Rd____________________________ b. Robertson St____________________________ c. Ewan Rd_______________________________ d. Angus St_______________________________ e. Stein Rd_______________________________ f. Windsor Rd_____________________________

2. Follow these paths. Write an answer to show where you finish on the map.

a. Start at the northern end of Robertson St → south 4 kilometres → west 3

kilometres

b. Start at the Angus St entrance to the shopping centre → south 2 kilometres →

east 3 kilometres

c. Start at the Windsor Rd entrance to the school → north 4 kilometres →

west 8 kilometres → north 2 kilometres

3. Hide something in your house. Choose a different start point and write directions

using arrows and directional language for someone else to follow to be able to

find the hidden object. If they are not able to locate the object fix your directions

so that they can.
