Installation of the Mounting Bracket

1. Position the motorcycle on its centre stand.

2. Install the two split bushes to the link bar bracket asshown below.

3. Remove the two screws and washers from theunderside of the mudguard. Retain the washers forre-use if the motorcycle is to be returned to itsoriginal condition. Retain the screws for re-use.

WarningThis accessory kit is designed for use on TriumphTiger Explorer and Tiger Explorer XC motorcycles onlyand should not be fitted to any other Triumph model orto any other manufacturer’s motorcycle. Fitting thisaccessory kit to any other Triumph model or to anyother manufacturer’s motorcycle will affect theperformance, stability and handling of the motorcycle.This may affect the rider’s ability to control themotorcycle and could cause an accident.

WarningAlways have Triumph approved parts, accessories andconversions fitted by a trained technician of anauthorised Triumph dealer. The fitment of parts,accessories and conversions by a technician who is notof an authorised Triumph dealer may affect thehandling, stability or other aspects of the motorcycle’soperation which may result in loss of motorcycle controland an accident.

WarningThroughout this operation, ensure that the motorcycle isstabilised and adequately supported to prevent risk ofinjury from the motorcycle falling.

WarningA torque wrench of known accurate calibration must beused when fitting this accessory kit. Failure to tightenany of the fasteners to the correct torque specificationmay affect motorcycle performance, handling andstability. This may result in loss of motorcycle control andan accident.

Note:

• The bracket is fastened to the rear bodyworkwith the screws only. The washers removedpreviously must not be used with the bracket.

4. Fit the bracket, with the brace bar facing toward thefront of the motorcycle and secure using the screwsremoved previously. Tighten the screws to 8 Nm.

5. Fit a gaiter from the kit to the long side of the linkbar and position as shown below.

6. Take the circlip from the kit and place on the link baras shown below.

Note:

• When fitting the link bar, the circlip must belocated to the right hand side of themotorcycle.

7. Insert the link bar from the right hand side. Attachthe gaiter to the recess in the bracket.

8. Take the remaining gaiter from the kit, slide it overthe link bar. Attach to the recess in the bracket asshown below.

9. Screw a M12 nut and end cap from the kit to eachend of the link bar. Do not fully tighten the lock nutat this stage.

Installation of the Pannier Third Mount

10. Locate the left and right third mounts and the rubberboots from the kit.

Note:

• The tapered edge of the rubber boot must faceto the front of the motorcycle.

11. Fit the rubber boots to the mounts.

12. Remove the screws and infill panels from the rearfootrest brackets and retain them for re-use if themotorcycle is to be returned to its original condition.

13. Locate the M6 x 20 mm third mount fixing screwsfrom the kit.

14. Fit the right hand third mount to the footrest bracketas shown below. Do not tighten the screws at thisstage.

15. Fit the left hand third mount to the footrest bracketas shown below. Do not tighten the screws at thisstage.

1. Screw, M6 x 20 mm2. Adjuster slot

16. On the right hand pannier, locate the pre-drilledholes for the adapter moulding.

17. Fit the adapter moulding using the three self-tappingscrews from the kit as shown below. Tighten thescrews to 1.5 Nm.

Pannier Link Bar Adjustment

1. Check that the motorcycle is in an upright positionon the centre stand.

2. Mount the panniers as described on page 8.

Note:

• When the panniers are correctly aligned to thethird mounts, the visible thread on the left andright hand side of the link bar are an equallength.

3. Undo the left and right link bar end caps equally onboth sides until the third mount rubber boots arelocated in the centre of the locating cup, as shownbelow.

4. Hold the link bar end caps and tighten the lock nutsto 8 Nm.

5. Push the pannier towards the centre of themotorcycle until the outer edge of the locating cupcomes into contact with the third mount rubberboot.

6. Adjust the third mounts horizontally forwards andrearwards until there is a small visible gap betweenthe rear of the rubber boot and the pannier. Alsoadjust the third mounts vertically up or down untilthe top of the rubber boot rests against the top ofthe pannier locating cup.

7. Tighten the left and right hand third mount fixingscrews to 8 Nm.

8. Allow the panniers to rest in their adjusted positionas shown below.

9. Check that the link bar is free to move smoothly andis unobstructed. Rectify if necessary.

10. Remove the motorcycle from the centre stand.

Note:

• Re-check the link bar adjustment andoperation at each service as recommended inthe 'Maintenance and Adjustment' section ofthe owner’s handbook.

Reflector Fitment - United States, Canada and Singapore Only

Note:

• Read the warning notices printed on thecleaning wipe packet in the fitting kit.

• The surfaces to which the reflectors are affixedmust be clean and dry to ensure that theadhesive has a sound base to adhere to. Usethe cleaning wipe supplied for this purpose.

1. Peel the protective film from the back of eachreflector.

2. Fit one reflector to each pannier, in the positionshown, ensuring the surface of the pannier is cleanand free from grease.

WarningDo not ride the motorcycle with the third mountsremoved or incorrectly adjusted.

Riding the motorcycle with the third mounts removed orincorrectly adjusted may cause the motorcycle tobecome unstable leading to loss of control and anaccident.

NoticeFailure to fit a reflector to each pannier as showncontravenes federal law and renders the motorcycleillegal for road use in the United States, Canada andSingapore. Always fit the reflectors as shown.

CautionWhen fitting self-adhesive parts care must be taken toensure positioning is correct and accurate. Once theadhesive has been attached to the mounting surface,there is no satisfactory method of removal andre-positioning if incorrectly aligned. Initial bonding isinstant, full bonding is achieved after 72 hours.

Mounting the Panniers

Lock Barrel Fitment

1. Fit the ignition key into the lock barrel lock suppliedwith the motorcycle when new.

Note:

• The lock barrel will only fit one way.2. Align the locking device on the lock barrel to the slot

in the lock housing in the top box, as indicated in theillustration below.

3. Push the barrel into position in the top box until itclicks into place.

4. Check the operation of the barrel.

To install each pannier:

Note:

• The same procedure can be followed toremove and mount the left hand or the righthand panniers.

• The pannier is marked in three positionsaround the lock barrel. To lock, open or releasethe panniers, the key slot must align with thecorresponding symbols around the barrel asshown.

1. Insert the key into the lock. Turn the key to theRELEASE position and lift the carrying handle to itsfully raised position.

2. Position the pannier to the motorcycle and engagethe fixed hooks of the pannier with the panniermounting points.

WarningThe two panniers fitted to this motorcycle are designedto be fitted as a pair. Never ride the motorcycle with onlyone pannier installed. Riding the motorcycle with onepannier installed may cause the motorcycle to becomeunstable leading to loss of control and an accident.

3. Ensure that the third mount rubber boots locate intothe cups moulded into the front of the pannier.

4. Turn the key to the RELEASE position, press downthe carrying handle to its fully closed position.Release the key and confirm the carrying handleremains locked in its aperture as shown below.

To remove each pannier:

1. To unlock and remove the pannier, turn the key tothe RELEASE position and lift the carrying handle toits fully raised position. Lift the pannier free from itsmountings.

Pannier Operation

1. To unlock and open the pannier, insert the key andturn it to the UNLOCK position, then press down onthe latch plate. The lid can then be opened.

Note:

• Due to the effective nature of the pannier lidseal, reasonable force may be required to closethe lid to the second latch position.

2. To close and lock the pannier, close the lid until thesecond 'click' is heard. Turn the key to the LOCKposition and remove it.

CautionThe pannier lid has two latch positions; the first latchposition acts as a safety catch. Always ensure the pannierlid is fully closed on to the second latch position, as thepannier will not fully seal on the first latch position.Riding the motorcycle with the pannier lid in thisposition may allow water or dust ingress into thepannier, causing damage to the pannier contents.

WarningThe maximum safe load for each pannier is 5 kg(11 lbs). Never exceed this loading limit as this maycause the motorcycle to become unstable leading to lossof control and an accident.

WarningThe two panniers fitted to this motorcycle are linked bya link bar to enhance stability. This link bar allows a smallamount of sideways pannier movement, independentlyof the motorcycle.

Do not remove or adjust the link bar (except asdescribed on page 6 of this instruction) as motorcyclestability will be affected. Riding the motorcycle with thelink bar removed or incorrectly adjusted may cause themotorcycle to become unstable leading to loss of controland an accident.

WarningIn all cases, loads must be evenly distributed on bothsides of the motorcycle. Uneven loading may causeinstability, loss of control and an accident.

WarningAfter fitting the accessory kit the motorcycle will exhibitnew handling characteristics. Operate the motorcycle ina safe area free from traffic to gain familiarity with anynew handling characteristics. Operation of themotorcycle when not familiar with any new handlingcharacteristics may result in loss of motorcycle controland an accident.

WarningNever ride an accessory-equipped motorcycle (includingthose fitted with Triumph approved windscreens andluggage systems) at speeds above 80 mph (130 km/h).

The presence of accessories such as windscreens andluggage systems will cause changes in the stability andhandling of the motorcycle. Failure to allow for changesin motorcycle stability may lead to loss of control or anaccident.

Remember that the 80 mph (130 km/h) limit will bereduced by the fitting of non-approved accessories,incorrect loading, worn tyres, overall motorcyclecondition and poor road or weather conditions.

WarningThis motorcycle must not be operated above the legalroad speed limit except in authorised closed-courseconditions.

WarningOnly operate this Triumph motorcycle at high speed inclosed-course on-road competition or on closed-courseracetracks. High speed operation should only beattempted by riders who have been instructed in thetechniques necessary for high speed riding and arefamiliar with the motorcycle’s characteristics in allconditions.

High speed operation in any other circumstances isdangerous and will lead to loss of motorcycle controland an accident.
