More information:

Weserbergland-Weg

Impressive castles, cozy cities with half-timbered houses and fascinating fairy tales like the Pied Piper of Hamelin – there is such a lot to explore in the holiday region Weserbergland.

Come to visit us and let yourself be enchanted!

If you like castles you will love the Weserbergland. Whether Bückeburg Castle, Corvey Castle, Bevern Castle, Fürstenberg Castle or Castle Hämelschenburg – all of these buildings are very impressive and definitely worth a visit.

Even the Brothers Grimm were inspired by the beauty of this region a long time ago and gathered ideas for many of their world-famous fairy tales here, in the Weserbergland.

Today the fairy tales are still present in many places throughout the region. During summer time you can visit several open-air theatres and meet Cinderella in Polle, the Lying Baron of Münchhausen in Bodenwerder or the Pied Piper in Hamelin.

Numerous cities with their half-timbered houses invite you to stroll through their historical centres for sightseeing or shopping. Many houses were built in the style of the Weser Renaissance, famous for its magnificent, luxuriously decorated frontages and gabled roofs. If you explore the historical winding alleys, you will discover an extraordinary atmosphere.

Outstanding buildings in the style of the Weser Renaissance can be found in Hamelin, Rinteln, Höxter and Stadthagen.

Our cycle route along the River Weser

If you like cycling this route is perfect to get to know the whole region. It leads you along the river which means it is not hilly and even untrained cyclists can manage it.

Some of our partners offer luggage transport for you so you can relax and enjoy the passing landscape with its beautiful hills without worrying about transporting any additional weight.

Our hiking track

Hikers can find ideal conditions on the Weserbergland-Weg. The hiking track is about 200kms long and passes castles, moors, old forests and valleys before it leads you up the hills where you can enjoy stunning views of the region.

The cities also offer a broad range of cultural programs. How about visiting a variety theatre, a fairy tale museum or even a helicopter museum?

If you would like to get to know the cities even better you can book guided tours in English through the beautiful town centres. There are a lot to choose from and they vary from a tour with the night-watchman to a guided tour with witches, executioners and ill-reputed scoundrels.

For culinary enthusiasts the castles and breweries in the Weserbergland open their doors for knights‘ banquets by candle light, and German beer tastings.
