ENGLISH LANGUAGECOURSES IN CARDIFF FOR YOUNG LEARNERS

Ref. JGB. 6, Cardiff (programa en familia)

WELCOME TO CELT!

Our school was founded by Greg Nelson in

Cardiff in 1989 and has been accredited by

The British Council since 1993. The school is

run by Greg and his wife Grace Durighello,

who is the Academic Manager. They have

both had many years’ experience of teaching

and educational administration and are

actively involved in the day-to-day running of

the school

We ran its first teenage programme in March

1990 and we have been organising courses and

taking care of young learners ever since. We are

very experienced in providing young leaners

with a great mix of educational and social

learning skills.

We aim to offer top quality language

programmes at affordable prices and provide

our students with personal care and attention in

a homely and friendly learning environment.

We have three main priorities:

• To offer first class teaching with friendly andexperienced teachers

• To look after students within a caring andsupportive environment

• To help students really enjoy theirexperience in Cardiff

YOUR GUARANTEE OF QUALITY

The school s accredited by the British Council

for the teaching of English as a foreign

language. The British Council is the official

organisation responsible for promoting British

cultural and educational interests abroad.

Together with English UK, the British Council

runs a voluntary quality assurance scheme

which monitors standards and gives students

a guarantee of quality when choosing a

language school in Britain.

The school is the only school in Wales to be a

member of “Quality English”. Quality English is

an association of independent English

language schools selected for their reputation

and standards of quality. All schools in the

association are privately owned and run by the

people who own them.

HOMESTAY ACCOMMODATION

We know that it is very important for our

students to be happy with their accommodation

and we try our best to make them feel “at home” while attending a course at our school. This

is why our Accommodation Officer carefully

chooses homestay providers and does

everything possible to make sure that students

are comfortable and enjoy their stay with us.

Most of our families have been hosting for many

years, and are experienced in helping students

from different countries and cultures feel at home.

Choosing homestay accommodation means:

• A great opportunity for students to practisetheir English outside the classroom

• Experiencing typical British culture andlifestyle

• Support of our experienced AccommodationOfficer

• Shared room (with a friend or a studentfrom a different country) on a full-boardbasis, i.e. breakfast, packed lunch and dinner

SUNDAY Day with homestay provider

• Homes located in safe, residential areas ofthe city – the average bus ride to the citycentre takes 20 minutes

• All homestay providers taking younglearners are police checked

When students enrol for a course at our school

and request homestay accommodation, their

details and specific requirements are taken into

account so that we can place students with

suitable families.

Please note that a homestay provider does not always

consist of two parents with children but could also be

an older couple whose children are grown up, a single

parent with children, a widow, or even a single person.

WELFARE AND STUDENT CARE

We recognise that living in a foreign country

can sometimes be difficult for students.

Students can find things different or confusing

particularly at a young age. Whether students

need practical advice or are just feeling a little

homesick, our friendly teachers and office

staff are always there to help. Outside office

hours, we have a 24-hour emergency telephone

number that students can call.

We also appreciate that sending a child abroad

to study can be a concern for parents. We want

to make sure, therefore, that we give parents all

the necessary information before sending their

child on a course at our school.

We take our responsibilities for young learners

very seriously and have rigorous policies and

procedures in place to make sure children

have the best possible experience in a safe

and secure learning environment. We have a

designated Safeguarding Officer and all our

staff are trained to work with under-18s. If there

are any aspects of the programme that are not

clear, please feel free to contact us.

Note for Parents/Legal Guardians

Students attending our’s Holiday Language

Course and Closed Group Courses are

supervised by our staff during lessons and

organised social programme activities at the

times indicated in the sample programme.

Students must take part in the full activity

programme and are not permitted to go off on

their own during activities.

Students on this programme are

accommodated with homestay providers

in the city and will be expected to use local

buses to travel between the school and their

accommodation. During this time they will

not be supervised by either our staff or the

homestay providers.

In the evenings and on Sundays when no

activities are programmed, students usually

stay with their homestay providers unless they

have written permission from their parents or

guardians stating that they are allowed to go

out unaccompanied.
