My summer holidays

I was in Croatia with my family for holidays.

Every day, after we swam, we played bech volley or basketball.

We visited some cities on this island.

Always when we were in a one city I ate icecream.

We played volleyball together, played cards or swam.

We were like afamily.

One day we went to an island named Ilovik by boat.

I missed the sea.

But one day we came home, my friend came to me.

We played a lot of football and basketball.

He came to me twice.

Then we went to the sea again.

But it wasn`t so gret like the first time.

That were my holidays.

They were my best holidays ever.

My summer holidays were too short. I knew that there will come a day when I'll have to go back to school. But in some moments I forgot about it. I really enjoyed these moments. Life could be so much easier without school! I was motivated to draw, read and sing like never before. Sometimes I went to the pool and my best friend came with me. It was fun. In August I went to the sea. I mean, with my family, of course. I love the sea. The weather and the water were great. I ate many ice-creams. When we were there we went to the supermarket in Koper. I bought a lot of clothes. I mean, you can't be there every day. At home I watched TV late into the night so I got up at eleven o'clock a.m. A few times I went to the cinema. I chose very good movies. I ate pop corn and drank cola. All that sounds very cool, but I missed my friends and classmates from school. I couldn't wait to see them. Just for them I wanted to go back to school!

I was at home most of my summer holidays. At first I had nothing to do. But in July I had my birthday and I got lots of presents. I decided to go to Sevnica to the outdoor pool. I went there with my sister and my friends. We went to Sevnica by train. We had lots of fun there. We swam and ate ice-cream. We were there untill 3 o'clock. Then we went on a train. After a few weeks my family and I went to the sea in Strunjan. We were there for 10 days. At first it was a little cold, but at the end it was sunny and hot. We went on a boat and we drive around the Slovenian coast.

It was beautiful. When we came back I had a birthday party form y close relatives. On fifteenth August I had my first handball training in the new season. After my handball training I was tired. Then on twenty-fifth August I went to Sevnica with my best friend, my sister and with my other friends. On the pool it was great! We jumped into the water, we ate ice-cream, and the weather was great. I went to my grandmother's for three days. I had lots ofof fun there. I had a great time in my summer, but then the holiday were over and the school started.

Tina Papež, 8A

My summer holidays were from 24 June to 1st September. I spent my holidays in Ljubljana and Laknice. My grandfather and grandmother live here.In Ljubljana I visited the ZOO and I enjoyed hockey game in Tivoli. I got a lot of autographs from hockey players. I saw the castle and went into the house of experiments. In Laknice I made a tree house, I made a football field in a forest near the wood house. I made a down hill track too and I hurt my head. I had to go to hospital. I went to the sea too. My family went on island Brač. We travelled 450 km by car to Split. Then we went to a car ferry. I swam alot, played with my new friends, ate a lot of ice creams, drove by boat and jumped into the sea. I got to know new friendsfrom Novo mesto and we went rollerblating near the sea. I enjoyed my holidays and I enjoyed going back to school on 1st September.

My summer holidays weren't so good. They were lame. It rained a lot and it was cold. There weren't many sunny and warm days. I was at home most of the time. If I wasn't at home, I was at my cousin Hana's place. We had a lot of fun together. I was at the seaside two times. The first time with my cousin Hana, my brother, grandma and grandpa. I really liked the food. I didn't like the sea. The second time I was at the seaside with my mother, stepfather and brother. I didn't like the sea there either, but I liked

the beach. I read there. I looked forward to starting the school.

Enja Osmanović, 8B

I had a very good time during my last summer holidays. I was at the seaside. And there was great. I was there with my cousin and mom. Every day I was home alone so I listened to music and felt great. And I was on holidays at my cousin's. I was also at the opening of the sports court in Mokronog. And I was at Matej's birthday too. So my holidays were very good.

Sara Srčič, 8B

My summer holidays were very boring.

I played football a lot. And I cycled too. A lot.

I was on holidays at my cousin's. We played computer games and watched TV.

We played football and basketball too.

I swam in the pool. It was borig.

I went to Spain on Camp nou in Barcelona.

Yes, I really was in Spain. In my dreams.

How I spent my last weekend

Weekend has two beautiful days, namely Saturday and Sunday. Usualy we do many things on Saturday but Sunday is a day to rest, relax, do hobbies and trips. I sleep more than other days. I will try to write about my last weekend.

On Saturday, I slept for a long time. I woke up at 7.30 o clock and had breakfast. I did my homework and then Maths and Chemistry. On Monday I was asked chemistry. I needed a short pause. I went on a field and played inline hockey with my brother. My parents weren´t at home, so we had lunch later, at about 13 o´clock. In the afternoon, I had to practice my instruments: the accordion and the baritone. On Saturday afternoons I have accordion lesson in Krško. Sometimes my teacher for baritone comes to our house and he teaches me. On Saturday evening I went with my brother to a hockey match in Tivoli. We saw a game between Olimpija and Orli Znojmo. It was great! On Sunday I visited my grandparents. We had a common lunch. After lunch we ate a good cake. After lunch we visited my uncle Peter and aunt Dunja. We played football and computer games with my cousins Vid, Živa and Zala. We returned home in the evening, and we were very tired. For the end I saw a football match on TV.

To sum up, my weekend is very important for me. I spend it on work, on hobbies, and relaxation. So I recharge my batteries for the next week.

Matej Markeljc, 8B

How did you spent your last weekend ?

I was in bed.

I watched TV because I was bored.

The next day I was a little better.

I didn`t work in the vineyard, because I was too weak.

Page 14: English Magazine 2011 2012

Page 14

14

Then we went home.

On sunday morning I went to the church.

Then I studied and did homework.

After that I went out and played football.

This weekend wasn`t fun.

I hope I`m not going to be ill son.

My last vacation

A lot of people think that being on vacation means having a great time and my vacation was just like that. Great!

Firstly, I visited my relatives and we had a nice talk. Secondy, I went to the cinema with my friends and then we went to pizzeria. And thirdly I had my birthday on Sunday.

To conclude, vacation is always welcome. I can't wait formy next vacation.

A lot of people think that being on vacation means having a great time! Well, I spent my vacations satisfactorily.

Firstly I went at my grandma's house for two days. I had a great time there. I watched TV and I studied for school. But I didn't study a lot.

Secondly I had handball training on Wednesday, on Thursday and on Friday afternoon.

And thirdly I had to study History, English, German and so on. That was the worst thing in my entire vacation-I had to study!

To conclude - my vacations were good and bad, but they are always welcome!

Tina Papež, 8A

A lot of people think that being on vacation means having a great time. I spent my vacation satisfactorily.

Firstly, I went to the sea. I had a great time there. We had nice weather and we enjoyed every moment of it.

Secondly, Tuesday and Saturday were the most boring days of my holidays. Nothing happened.

And then comes Thursday. Thursday was my happiest day ever!

Mateja, Rupert, Bor and me went in the cinema. We're going to watch a horror film Paranormal Activity 3. The film was great and someone else too.

At times the film was very scary.

And on Saturday I went to my brother’s house.

To conclude, vacation is always welcome, I can't wait for my next vacation.

MY SUMMER HOLIDAYS

In these summer holidays I visited my friend Alja. We played computer

In August I was on the island Vir in Croatia. I went to Zadar, Nin and

I had a great time. I slept to 8 am and when I woke up I ate breakfast

and then I swam. I played catch with my mum, went to walk with my

family... We went to restaurants, bought souvenirs, ate ice cream...

I wanted to stay on island Vir for the whole year!

It's summer time and time for holidays, well it was time for all this, now it's school but it's not the bad thing, the bad thing is that we have a great time when there were holidays because we miss them very much! Well the start of holidays was boring but then I went to the sea and beach with my cousin for all ten days. Ohh it was great but not just great it was amazing! We were on the beach all day, that was from ten to eight o'clock because we were near to the beach. We were jumping in the water and dived and were searching the shells, we were laughing all day and every day too. It was really great, but then time came to say goodbye…. It was so sad, we were crying. When we were going home we were looking at the sea very sadly, but I was happy too because I could see my family and my pets. After that it was boring again. My summer holidays were the best holidays ever! We were with my cousin in the spa too a lot of summer time

because it was very hot. We really enjoyed. I went to my cousin a lot of times too and then we went to the cinema, for a walk, we played volleyball, were sleeping in a tent and there was a lot of talking. When we were sleeping in the tent, it was very spooky so we were screaming and laughing then, we didn't know what to do so we were calling a friend and were talking to him all night so it was really crazy because we are crazy too. And then the end of my summer holidays came and we had to go to school and say goodbye to my cousin and my summer friends so I miss them a lot and I hope that I will see them soon.

Animal migrations A lot of people know what that is. But for the others who don't, we're going to tell you some things about animal migrations.

A lot of animal travel from one place to another -- that is called migration.

In Africa large mammals, like elephants, zebras and wilde beests, migrate to find food and water.

A lot of birds migrate to find food and better weather conditions, for example swallows.

They spend the summer in northern Europe, because of insects. And in winter they move to southern Europe and Africa.

Some insects migrate too. In North America a lot of butterflies fly south to spend winter in Mexico. California and Florida, where it's warmer.

Some fish migrate to breed. Salmon can swim over 20,000 km in their life.

They live in the ocean until they are adults.

They lay their eggs in the river and then they usually die. Salmon do this, because their eggs are safer in the river so other fish can't eat them.

Artic terns travel the furthest when they migrate. They spend summer in theArtic, but when winter comes they fly to the Antartic, because it's summerthere. The next year they fly back to the Artic again. In one year these smallbirds travel 36,000 kmfrom one end of the earth to the other and back again.

I know one migration of people – summer holidays migration. Actually we go on holidays, because we need to relax.

People migrations

In the past people moved fron one place to another because they were looking for a better place to stay

and a better ground to cultivate. I think that they were smart to think about this since ground becomes

bad after several years of cultivation. Now people move because they want to see more of the world,

because of better jobs in

other towns...

In the past, people lived in groups. All people in one group were related to each other. Actually, each group was one big family. Reasons for their migrations were, like I said, looking for a better place and ground, because ground in some years of cultivation became drained and harvest got worse and worse, they lacked grass for their sheep and cows...

Now people move because of different reasons. Some of them want see more of the world, meet new people, new cultures. Some of them move because they found better job in another town or country. Young people move because they go to college or get married.

To conclude, people are moving all the time - in the past, now...

In some cases it is a good idea and in others a bad one. Anyway, I

think that people migrations were in past, are happening now and are

going to be in the future.

Andreja Kernc, 8B

Page 20: English Magazine 2011 2012

Page 20

20

I'm going to talk about people migrations. In the past, people migrated when they were Slavs, Germans and Romans. I can't imagine how it was, when they all migrated at the same time.

These peoples were opponents. Germans were the strongest of them and they were taking over the Slavs's territory. So Slavs had to migrate. These

poor people had to leave their homes. But when I thought well about it I found out that if this wouldn't happen to the Slavs, we wouldn't exist. After all,

we are their descendants.

But nowadays people have very different motives for migrations. They move their house because of a new job for example or they are looking for better living conditions. Some of them travel all the time, they never make a family and don't have a parmanent home. Students migrate when they go to university and they have to buy or rent an apartment.

I moved house, too. I wasn't very sad because I was a little girl. But anyway, I remember some friends. Fortunately, we didn't move very far away. If we move house now, it could be worse.

To sum up, migrations were never and still aren't easy. But this is something human, so we have to live with that even if we don't want to.

Janja Sedlar, 8A

People migrate because they are bored with the place they are living right now. They want to move to other places because

of the neighbours. They have an old house and they want to move to a bigger and a more modern house. They

don't want to live with their parents. And I think that one reason is that they want to be cool and have a house

on Hawaii or they just love to do that. They want to be closer to the people they know.

MY STORY Did you ever break something that was not yours? Well, I did. I broke my dad's fishstick.

I didn't know what to do. So I was going to spend all of my money to buy a new fishstick. But it simply cost too much. And I knew I wouldn't buy it. I thought my dad was going to be very upset when he finds out about it. I tried to fix it but that was 'mission impossible'. So I took that fishstick to my room. I hid it under my bed and hoped dad wouldn't find it.

But I couldn't take it any more. My dad was looking for his fishstick everywhere except under my bed. Then I took that fishstick from under the bed and went to my dad. I told him what I did. But he wasn't angry at all! He understood me

Page 26: English Magazine 2011 2012

Page 26

26

and he told me he's not angry. He was glad I told him.

So, if you ever break something that isn't yours – don't try to hide that from that person – just apologize instead.

Marcel was cooking a dinner, Betty’s husband was reading a newspaper and her secretary was doing some paper work. Cindy was outside. She climbed the balcony and took sister’s jewels. She was jealous of her, because she had so beautiful jewels. She hid them. All people in the house said, they didn’t do it, so Betty called the police and they started to investigate. She also promised a lot of money for a man, who will find a thief. Police officers worked hard, even more than usually!

FAIRYTALES The story about a princess and a

prince Once upon a time there was a very bad witch. She lived in a big tower. She kidnapped a princess. This princess had a magic mirror. She had a friend wolf too and he was very kind. This wolf Fillip brought her to a forest. They found a very old house where an old man lived with his parents. One day a storm came and with the storm a frog. This frog could speak and it told her that it is a prince. Then the princess kissed a prince and he became normal. Then together they went to an island and they found treasure. In the box there was a rug and it carried them away to a castle. They fought with a dragon and then the princess and the prince got married. They went on a journey by carriage.

A STORY ABOUT A BROKEN HEART I was there for you, but you didn't come. You broke my heart. I was waiting for you at a restaurant. I was eating our lunch, and drinking our wine. I was so sad, so I built a wall. I wanted to make sure that you aren’t cheating on me. I went to the shop and I bought popcorn and colla. It cost me 2 dollars. I came at your home and I brought you the thing I bought you. I opened your doors and I saw you with another girl on the sofa. You were kissing her. I ran away and become so sad, that my heart stopped beating. I wished I could bite you like a lion, and you would die. But I wasn't so mean. I went home and I burnt all the things you gave me. I cut your dress, which smelled like you. I dug a big hole, and I buried your things. I drew a broken heart on our wall and I wrote all the things we did together. I wanted to die so I took a ride and I crashed into a truck. I didn't die but my legs weren't part of my body anymore. My ex-boyfriend is now a tramp and I always see him on the road, in front of my house. I'm not the same person. I'm a better person now. But still with a broken heart.

On a beautiful day she went into the town to do the shopping and on way throught the woods she met her friend Violet, whitch fell two days ago and broke her leg,so she had to walk with the help of a cane.Violet hurt her foot so she went to the town to by some ointment.Of course,it was the kind-hearted Tinkerbell helped her get in town, but when they stepped three steps forward, they met an ant,and she looked angry,so she almost bit Tinkerbell. And that is how quickly arrived into town.On their way they also saw a bumble who was building his house. Then they were already in the town and they immediately went into a cafe and drank a cup of coffee. And since they were really hungry too they ate. They drove around the town with taxi and they shopped of course they walked off the Violet ointment. When they got into the last shoe shop, they saw beautiful shoe and they immediately bought them even though cost a lot. After that they went in to a hair salon and they had their hair cut. They were in the town all day because they enjoyed it.Since it got dark very soon, they had to go home. The next day Tinkerbell remembered that Viola had her birthday the next day so she went into a neigbouring city if they had a birthday present for Violet. She was about to go but she first drew a flower on the wall because Violet loved it.She finished it very soon.Violet took great care of Tinkerbell because she told her that she went to her aunt's place, because someone burnt down her house, but Violet knewed that Tinkerbell had no family.Tinkerbell, before she went to the city, saw something she had to do ,because someone dug a hole in her garden. She can't stay very long in the city so she returned home very soon.On her way home she met Viola. She scared for a present. In that momment came a spider and Tinkerbell asked him if he could hide the present and he said yes.Tinkerbell threw the present to the spider and he caught it,but he almost droped it.Than came Viola's birthday and a party began soon. When Tinkerbell came to the party, she brought the present for Viola. Viola was really happy.

Everybody had fun all day, all night.Tinkerbell saw her best friend and she knowed that she didn't need any other friends because they like her and they supported her.She was sorry because she wanted to became a researcher.Tinkerbell didn't need any family, because she had family and that were her friends.

My first real love

My life was very miserable. Until I met someone who I loved so much it hurts. And that person is ... He is my boyfriend. We met when my friend Sara introduced me to him. It was Saturday afternoon and we were talking on skype. Then she invited him to chat with us. And he accepted it. I didn't have a clue who he was. I thought it was just some boy. Another asshole who breaks your heart in a minute. But that is so not true. He is special. Me and Žiga started writing to each other. Sending emails and messages. One day, he asked me if he can meet me. And I didn't know what to do, so I went on a date with him. I was so scared and nervous. He asked me when and where we could meet. I didn't know that so I called my friend immediately to tell her everything, but she called me erlier to tell me that she is coming to Mokronog. Then I remembered that she can be with me when I meet Žiga. And that's what happened. At 7.00 o'clock Mateja rang at my bell. I was so nervous. And we went in front of the school. There it happened. It was love at first sight. He was so charming and cute. And I was just standing there, shining like a sunshine. So we went to the bus station back to the school. When we were walking he held my hand. And he gave me a hug. Everything was so wonderful. We were having a great time. And later, it happened. Our first kiss. It was so

romantic. I will never ever forget that day, when I meet him. Now we're together for eight weeks, and we were the happiest couple on the world. All it matter's that we love each other no matters what happens.

Advice about drugs and alcohol

You shouldn’t take drugs, because this is going to be bad for your body and healthy. If you want to drink alcohol you can, but it’s gonna be bad for your body and also for your family.

Aleš Žagar, 9 a class

Some young people want to taste and do everything, for example alcohol and drugs. It’s funny to taste those, because you’re happier and it’s fun. I admit, I tasted a very small amount of alcohol in the past. It was fun, but crappy. It doesn’t help me. And it won’t help you. So, don’t even start!

Kaja Kocjan, 9th class

DRUGS: Drugs are not good for our body. It’s poison and you become addicted. Sometimes people sell drugs for money or they just wonna have good time. When you go on party, you have to be careful. You can got drugs in your drinks, so you must have drink close to you.

ALCOHOL: Alkohol isn’t good. It’s poison. You become addicted. You

first become so funny, then you’re drunk and then you become violent.

Tina Pavlin, 8 B class

You shouldnt start with drugs and alkohol, because it`s hard to give up and it`s not good for you. Some people have a problems in their life and they start doing this, but with that you can`t solve problems. If you drinking a lot of alcohol, thet`s not good caus you can be drunk and sometimes you doing things wich you don`t when you`re not drunk. I think the alcohol is one of drugs. Alcohol kills your body( brains, kidneys, nervoussystem). Drugs causes vision. Drugs and alcohol can kill you. So go away feom them!
