We built this City

Age: 5+

Duration: 10-120 min.

We Built This City is a large scale participatory theatrical installa-tion celebrating absolute simplic-ity and the power of children’s imaginations. It takes the form of a public ‘construction site’ using nothing but thousands of card-board boxes and the energy and ingenuity of kids and families. Guided by performers in the role of construction workers who fa-cilitate free play, the children build cities and buildings, trans-forming the boxes into land-scapes, each day bringing differ-ent creations. Then, during the very last performance of the sea-son, everyone is invited to help in crushing it all into a recyclable heap of cardboard rubble. A DJ or musician plays live to under-score the action with music while performers set challenges for the

children. We Built This City plac-es children in the role of archi-tect, empowering them to con-struct their ideal city, and during the performance they will make buildings go up, pull them down, redesign them, extend, walk through, jump on, and recon-struct them. We Built This City is not a play… it is play.

Art Stage SAN (Korea) The Fairy and the Woodcutter

Age: All

Duration: 30 min.

A fairy appears in town! And a woodcutter is looking all over for it. The traditional Korean fair-ytale, can now be enjoyed as a piece of street theatre. Huge puppets parade along the street, telling a story: an automaton rooster, the faces of a happy family, a 6-metre-high marion-ette, a fairy puppet that shares her tears, deer puppets and more. Without freedom, it is im-possible to be happy. So, when the fairy loses her freedom, her "wing cloth", she wanders the streets in tears searching for it. The woodcutter loves the fairy.

Every day, he looks up to heaven waiting for her and turns into a rooster. He loves her so much that he takes her "wing cloth", trapping her, like a bird in a cage. Deer manipulate the wood-cutter between good and evil, but what would he choose? Will the fairy get her "wing cloth" back? And what does freedom really mean in today’s society?

Dallae’s Story

Age: 8+

Duration: 60 min.

A story of war told through the eyes of an innocent child. In the spring, Dallae went out to see the flowers, in the summer, she went out with her dad to fish, in the autumn, she caught dragon-flies and picked apples with her mother and father and in the winter, she made a snowman. Dallae’s family was happy until war broke out and her father was drafted to the battlefield. Left alone, Dallae, begins to dream. While dreaming with Dallae, we discover things in life that con-nect people beyond borders. This performance presents a family in the face of hardship, through the lens of the Korean War in the 1950s.

Andersen-Project / Nightingale

Age: 10+

Duration: 60 min. Created by a Danish director, a Danish set designer, a Korean composer and Korean actors (as part “Danish Focus” during the 21st ASSITEJ Korea Int’l Sum-mer Festival in 2014), "Andersen Project - The Night-ingale" marks the first collabo-ration between these Korean and Danish theatre artists. The Emperor of China learns that one of the most beautiful things in his empire is the song of the nightingale. When he orders the nightingale brought to him, a kitchen maid (the only one who knows of its whereabouts) leads the court to a nearby forest where the bird is found. The nightingale agrees to appear at court. The Emperor is so de-lighted with the bird's song that he keeps the nightingale in cap-tivity. When the Emperor is giv-en a bejeweled mechanical bird, he loses interest in the real nightingale, who returns to the forest. Eventually, the me-chanical bird breaks down due to overuse. A few years later, the Emperor becomes seriously ill. The real nightingale learns of the Em-

peror's condition and returns to the palace to sing for him once again. Death hears the nightin-gale's song, and so moved that he departs and the Emperor recovers.

brate the 100th anniversary of his death (or…?) Fascinating, not-for-the-faint-hearted fun: when the gore of the Grand Guignol meets the no-holds-barred ac-tion of the Commedia, there WILL be collateral damage. There is no doctor in the house! Note: This performance uses full mask, half-mask and plenty of movement as well as spoken words. A basic synopsis will be made available for those who are not familiar with the story.

Music From Movement – Mini

(Music From Movement – Mini)

Age: 7+

Duration 40 min.

Music From Movement is a humor-ous music and dance performance for children and youngsters about experiencing the music through the body and the body through the music. If Björk and Blue Men Group had children, they would undoubtedly look like WE GO in their tight red full body suits.

The four members melt together in a curious and extraordinary machinery of bodies and instru-ments. Every movement small or big produces sound on the instru-ments and out of the choreogra-phy music arises in a humorous tightly composed mechanism. Through the choreography the audience can visually follow the musical compositions and get a look into the heart of the music.

(Remembrance)

Age: 14+

Duration: 60 min.

"Remembrance" is a collection of readings of English poetry, ex-tracts from diaries and letters written during the First World War and maybe even a song or two. It is a tribute to the soldiers who gave their lives while fighting for their country and for freedom. We hope to recreate memories and images of a critical

piece of history. World War 1 or, “The Great War” was the world’s first global conflict. It resulted in unprecedented carnage and de-struction with more than 9 mil-lion soldiers killed by the end of the war in 1918. As the philoso-pher Santayana said: ”Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it.”

The Under World

(Landet Under)

Age: 6+

Duration: 45 min.

Seven-year-old Rose, who lives in a house in the country, has lost her twin brother Milo in a tragic accident. Her parents try to dis-pel her grief, but Rose cannot forget her brother. She creates an imaginary world around Milo’s toys which her parents have told her not to play with. The toys tell her that there is a secret world underneath the house where her brother has been taken against his will by the Mistress of the Night. One night, Rose travels to the Under World to free her brother. The Under World is a warm narrative about grief from a child’s perspective. Taking a child’s universe as its starting point, it addresses the heavy is-sue of grief in a playful tone. As only children can, Rose incorpo-rates imagination and reality into her play and, in doing so finally learns to live with the loss of her brother.

Night follows day. Time can’t go backwards. We can all agree on that. And you mustn’t steal and you can’t walk naked down the street … right? But who decides what is right? And what happens when we disagree? Who is right then? Truth is often connected to authority. God, parents and au-thorities have many answers to what is right and wrong. Some things we can all agree on. Other rules we make up ourselves as we go along. But how much can you disagree and still be friends? How far do you have to go to give friendship a common ground? “True Confusion” is a co-production between ZeBU and friends Loa Carlslund and Frej Stenholt Mortensen – two newly qualified dancers who use dance as a physical, challenging and playful stage language. In this production for older children, they are allowed to romp around even beyond the edge of stage.

(HANe og HUNd)

Age: 4-10

Duration: 40 min.

A dance performance for children age 4-10. In the beginning before anything existed, before the be-ginning, everything was One. Then, One split into two. A boy and a girl. A man and a woman. A he and a she. And in between there was mystery of life. Based on the sounds and movements of animals and their strange yet fa-miliar behaviour, the artistic team consisting of director Cath-erine Poher, chorographer Thom-as Eisenhardt and composer Peter Bastian, made a performance which charmingly plays around the meeting between a HE and a SHE.
