Red Hill Primary School Autumn 2015

For the first part of the Autumn term we will be studying The Romans. As part of our new curriculum we will be incorporating as many of the subjects, that we are teaching, into a topic web, to create an immersive and exciting experience for the children. Our main history focus will see us study the romanisation of Britain, Life in Roman Britain and Boudicca. We hope the children will find it an exciting start to year four.

Fire and IceOur second Autumn Topic

Our topic for the second half of the Autumn Term will be Fire and Ice - a unit with a strong science background. We will be looking at solids, liquids and gases, evaporation, condensation and what happens to different materials when they are heated and cooled. In English the main focus will be Dragons, a unit of work created by Pie Corbett. In Geography we will studying volcanoes and earthquakes, climate zones and the water cycle. We will also link back to our Roman work and think about what happened to Pompeii.

ReadingPlease ensure your child has their reading book in school every day and that they practise at home regularly. Reading has a positive impact on their writing, language and communication and is a very important skill. We hope the children will enjoy all the stories we read in year 4 and a daily story time will take place, inspiring their imagination and creativity. We are also making improvements to the ways we teach reading, ensuring we provide a variety of strategies for children to use when tackling unfamiliar words.
