6. Subject Description: The aim of this subject is to help students who came in with a lower English proficiency level to meet the demands of the academic and working world. Hence, these students need additional hours in reading, writing and speaking skills. The subject will focus on the use of correct grammar, speaking confidently in the English language and writing effectively.

7. Subject Objectives : The specific skill areas which the subject seeks to improve are:

different skills needed to read academic and non-academic materials, both for information and research

business writing and communication skills which they must deploy in class assignments and workplace

diverse sentences that are grammatically correct, stylistically pleasing, and free of punctuation and spelling errors

suitable techniques to deliver effective presentations based on the nature of the material and the identified audience need.

8. Learning Outcomes: On completion of this subject, students will be able to:

apply different skills needed to read academic and business-related materials, both for information and research

produce writings for business communication such as emails, memoranda and business reports

develop knowledge and understanding of the differences between spoken and written English, factors that influence use of grammar and vocabulary in speech and writing and the different ways in which grammar has been described.
